FIFA World Cup Predictor Game

I predict there will be rampant flopping and whining.

No World Cup has even been held in South America since the 70s. (1986 it was held in Mexico, if you want to count that.)

So, I'm not sure that history has any rational judgment on how European teams will do in 2014 Brazil.

What is interesting is just how much of a home field advantage both Chile and Colombia had in their games. And Argentina should be even more so since they play all their group games in Southern Brazil. Doubt that was necessarily the case at Argentina 1978 - i.e. S. American teams with huge traveling support.

So I was invited by a Brit at work to participate in a world wide prediction contest. Pick every game in the group stage before they begin. At the end of day 3 I was first in the world - all alone out of thousands. Alas, I'm quite certain it won't last, but it was fun while it did.

They had one job: get three points from Iran :rulz:

Whomever took the Ticos is in great shape. And Ghana still might steal points.

I think I should have 11 with Nigeria, Brazil, USA and Ivory Coast unless I'm missing something about the rules.

He hasn't updated since Brazil netted that sweet, sweet point from the 0-0 draw.

Didn't want to do an update until after RUS-KOR, so I'll show the standings after Group Stage 1 later this morning -- that will not reflect the 0-0 Brazil/Mexico match. I'll then do one at the end of today since 1/4 of the groups in Group Stage 2 will be complete by then.

Standings after every team's first group game (so this does not include the draw for Mexico v Brazil from yesterday)

Average points gained so far is 16.11.
