The ACC 2016-17

Jalen Hudson leaving VT. Their 10th departure since Buzz took over 2 seasons ago. He's definitely turning things around quickly, but that's a pretty high number.

@GoodmanESPN
Duke freshman point guard Derryck Thornton is transferring, sources told ESPN.

Man, Fuck You Coach K ! Convince a kid to come to Duke a year early then he sees the writing on the wall after 8 months in your system.

Hmmm, interesting. Duke is gonna have a boatload of talent but no true PG.

It's an absolute joke that a guy has to sit out a year, especially when Duke forced his hand like this.

Why does no one hold K accountable for this crap?(I mean in the media, not on our message board!). He coerces this kid to give up his senoir yr of high school, apparently makes him some promises, immediately recruits over him and now forces him out to make room for another one and done. Real "classy." Did the same thing to another kid (Dawkins?) a few yrs ago, except he just immediately recruited over him and, because I guess he didn't need his scholarship, let him ride the bench after his PG crisis was over.

Reminds me of his employing a walk on to "rough up" CP3 a week after Temple's John Chaney took a lot of heat for "sending in a goon"(his words) to take out an opposing player, and breaking is arm. No one in the media had the balls to even criticize K, but everyone crucified Chaney.

Y'all are talking like Coach K is the only coach who has ever done this. Recruit a player heavily, make promises, player gets to school and isn't as good as anyone thought, minutes are low, player - with encouragement from coach - decides to look around and go somewhere he'll get to play. Every coach does that (admittedly, more in fball than bball).

Saban is going to go down as the GOAT CFB coach and a big part of it is that he brings in 20 new 4 and 5 star players every recruiting season. Some 3 stars commit early in the year and get recruited over in the same recruiting cycle. Some 4 and 5 stars get to school and realize they're buried on the depth chart. Not always fair, but it's the process in big time sports.

Really good post and agree with this, but the difference is that even though Saban may be considered as the GOAT CFB coach, he is largely viewed as a mercenary coach that is all about winning at all costs.

The perception of K is very different and it shouldn't be; he is Nick Saban, but the mainstream media refuses to paint the Duke program in a true light. Despite now running Duke like Kentucky (or Memphis under Cal), K largely skates by in the mainstream as "Coach Relationships" who still is as much about education, ethics and developing his "kids" (barf) as he is about winning. That's the annoying aspect. If he was called out like Calapari is (or essentially every SEC football coach is as running football factories), it would be easier to deal with. Instead, K has his "win at all costs" machine in place, while still being viewed as the Patron Saint of College Basketball. That is what sucks.

This kid averaged 8 pts as a freshman pg on a team with a bunch of other scorers. It's not like he sucks. And the fact that the kid left HS a year early to be treated like this shows K's lack of loyalty. I have no problem with recruiting over him, that's life.
