The Official 2015 MLB Season Thread - Congrats, Royals

I'm not saying he's not a douche. The whole "where's my ring" quote really exemplifies that. He's been told since he was 16 that he's going to be one of the greats and the crazy thing is that he is backing up his hype on the field. I would be more surprised if he wasn't a douche. The dude busted up his face a few seasons ago because he broke his bat on a wall while throwing a hissy fit.

What I am saying is that Papelbon shouldn't have choked slammed him.

Again, the culture of excusing athletes for being awful people due to on the field performance. Way to go.

what exactly is harper's "place" and why does he need to be put there?

you sound really lame.

Saying that Papelbon shouldn't be grabbing anybody by the throat and slamming them into a wall because he doesn't like their hustle isn't excusing the fact that Bryce Harper is a douchebag.

TAB is just spouting nonsense because he watched the video and doesn't know the context besides "that washed up closer choked that douche"

I'm just mad the Cubs didn't trade for Papelbum and have him choke slam the douche kris bryant or the super douche addison russell or the king of douches kyle schwarber.

The world needs more Jonathan Papelbons.

the real question is if mormon king dwarf douchebag bryce harper deserves a chokeslam what does the king dwarf douche hailing from the city in decline deserve?

can we have our mother's basement thread back, please?

Papelbon had a -0.386 WPA in his last game of the season.

Link.

It was only the second game of the season where he gave up two earned runs, and the only game where he gave up more than two runs total. Also his only two walk outing of the year, and the first time all season he was taken out of a game other than the ejection the other night. What a day for Papelbon-haters. Might make the Phillies highlight video for the year.

Edit: Also, the fact that this debacle happened on fan appreciation day, and the players had to hang out and give out stuff to the fans that stuck around through it all, is just plain funny. Poor guys.

This may be a Cubs thread post, but whatever.

There is a scenario where if the Pirates can catch and tie the Cards, they would have to play a one game tiebreaker to win the division, loser plays the Cubs. That would be a terrible disadvantage for the Cards & Bucs - have to figure they may not throw Wacha or Cole in that game, but you never know.

That would be a weird spot to be in for either of those teams. I think, if this happened, that each team would have to save their aces for the potential elimination WC game or game 1 of the NLDS, depending on the outcome. That would make the most sense, right? If you burn your ace in a playoff for the division and you lose that game, then you will be at a serious disadvantage since you'll definitely be going up against Arrieta in the elimination game, which already puts you at a disadvantage with the way his been throwing lately. Conversely, if you win the divisional playoff, but burn your ace doing so, then you'll only get one start out of him instead of having go him games 1 and 5 (if necessary).

red sox up to a positive run differential, first time since april. also alone in 3rd place (totally screwing up the draft pool money). If there were like 20 more games in the season they could make the p offs.

Bruh, get serious. They are 14 1/2 out of the East and 6 back of the second wild card with three teams in between them. Will be interesting to see what they do with Fat Panda and crappy Hanley though.

I was hoping for this, but the Cards winning on Mon def reduced the likelihood. Even if PIT sweeps StL today hard to see them losing 2 of 3 to Atlanta to close the year

Cards don't really have an ace, not much of a difference between starting Lackey, Wacha or Garcia if it came down to one game for division. That said, a tie looks unlikely.

Yeesh:

In Jonathan Papelbon, Nationals got their closer — and their kiss of death

Throughout the season, when everyday players are going to get a day off, the manager typically finds a way to get the message to a player the night before. The player, then, can do with that information whatever he wants — get in a more rigorous weight-lifting session that night, arrive at the ballpark a little later the next day, whatever. More importantly, a player with a day off can mentally decompress and, for once, relax.

According to individuals with direct knowledge of the situation, Werth hadn’t received such a message from Williams. This wasn’t the first time, and Werth wasn’t the first veteran to experience what players considered an oversight once, an egregious error beyond that.

What might have been a minor blip in a successful season became a boiling point. Incensed, Werth ripped the lineup card off the wall, bellowing that it was going to change. Then, according to several people who were present, he confronted Williams — not just about whether he would play that day, but about what most of the clubhouse considered to be a chronic lack of communication with his players. Among the most jarring barbs, from Werth to Williams: “When exactly do you think you lost this team?”
