Wake Baseball 2017-Regional Champs! On to Supers!

Seven of the eight WF players drafted have signed. The only unsigned Deacon draftee is Griffin Roberts (Twins). WF commit Shane Muntz (Padres) has also not signed. The deadline to sign is July 7.

To give an idea how important negotiating leverage is: WF seniors Parker Dunshee (7th round pick) and Ben Breazeale each signed for $10,000. Junior Donnie Sellers (11th round pick) signed for $125K.

That is shocking.

In baseball, college seniors have zero leverage. Where are they going to go if they don't sign? Indy ball? Get a real job? Unless they have another sport option, they have to take whatever the MLB team offers.

well they were also drafted higher than they would otherwise precisely because they would take less (likely pre-agreed with the team)

Pretty sure we cannot hang with the final four but it is enjoyable watching someone light up Gator pitching. I am sure Walter and other coaches are observing Sclossnagle trying to take Gaytors apart. Deacs are right there as long as talent continues to roll in.

Wake could definitely have hung with the final four. We took one of the final four to a game three last weekend.

It's baseball, anything can happen.

At the super regional level you really need 4 quality starters because there is always a rain delay. Our pitching is/was somewhat thin. That's why we got blown out of game 3 vs gaytors. You really have to have that in Omaha. 3 won't cut it.

3-0 is a blowout? Our pitching was more than good enough to win that series. We outhit them. Just made some execution errors.

We are right there with any team in the country. If we had been paired against the Texas Tech regional or another regional, we'd prolly have been in Omaha. We had plenty of pitching, just a little weak in middle relief. In Omaha, to get to where they are now, Florida has only used two starters. Their #1 starter has pitched two games. The way the CWS is spread out, if you win, you don't have to go as deep into using starters.

Wake was there this year. We were a top 5-10 team. The back of our lineup was incredible for a college team. We had much higher batting averages than most teams in the CWS. Let's hope we can reload next year.

The thing that really sucked is had we been in Omaha, we would have been the darlings of the tournament. Rake Forest combined with a small school would have had the country pulling for us like they did Coastal Carolina last year. It would have been great for marketing. I was in Omaha both last year and this year. I have no doubt that had we made it, we would have been the national story.

Home plate umpire has been awful. Giving the LSU pitcher about a foot off the outside corner.

I'd argue it's easier to win in Omaha based on the schedule without pitching than in a Super. Because of the days in between games winning first two games are everything. If you have two shutdown guys you get two days before Game 3 and someone has to beat you twice
