WF Tennis (WS Open Starts Saturday)

So the team loses to a TCU team they beat earlier in the year, and Rubin loses to a UVA player he beat earlier in the year.

Typical.

Knock it off with all this "most Wake Forest thing ever" nonsense. We had a freshman make the final of NCAAs. That is the opposite of LOWF.

Yes he lost a tough match, but I will take having our players compete for national championships any day

Don't we have 2 more good players coming this fall? If everyone stays we could have the best team in our history.

Could not agree more. Incredible season - Go Deacs!

We currently have 1 blue chip player coming in, but things change quickly in college tennis and Bresky is a tireless recruiter.

This was the best team and results in Wake Forest history.

True. But 5 and 6 count the exact same as 1 and 2 in college tennis. More depth would help.

Some matches we were playing freshmen at 1, 3, 5 and 6. So depth could come not just from recruiting but the continued development of the other young players as well. Some of those other frosh won some big matches down the stretch too.

Noah Rubin quoted in WSJ saying decision on whether to return to Wake for sophomore season will be made within a couple of weeks.

How does NCAA runner-up stack up in the pro ranks? Like where'd he be ranked roughly if he turned pro right now?

lucky to break top hundred. Currenty the USC two time Champ has been aroun 50 approx. This is rare. However, Rubin was only a freshman, and had an amazing year.

Everybody's in a different situation so hard to speak in generalities like that.

His career high ranking is 532 and that's without playing a full pro schedule. I would imagine that he should be able to get inside the top 300 pretty quickly. But I think with his game it's going to take him a few years to be a top 100 player

The 2015 season was the most successful season in Wake men's tennis 60 year history. The team set a record for wins in a season (24) and advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament (losing to final 4 team TCU). Noah Rubin was the first ACC player ever to win both freshman and player of the year, and he was the first Wake player to advance past the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament (he advanced to the finals beating players from Stanford, Ohio State, USC, Illinois, and UVA). Rubin and Romain Bogaerts both advanced to the NCAA round of 32, which is the first time Wake has had two players advance in the NCAA tourney, and both were named All-Americans. Christian Seraphim and Skander Mansouri advanced to the NCAA round of 16 in doubles.

If all players return, Wake will be loaded next year, and a top 5 team. Since the team finished this year in the top 16 (#13), Wake will get to host the first two rounds of the national indoor championship qualifying tournament. Wake has one blue chip recruit signed, Eric Rutledge from Texas, the #18 player in the senior class.

Thanks. That's impressive stuff.

What are the percentages that everyone returns?

Wake Forest will host an ITF Future tournament, with qualifying rounds starting tomorrow (May 30th) and the main draw starting on Monday (June 1st). This new event will feature pros and college players, including several Wake players (Rubin, Ho, Kan). More info can be found here http://www.itftennis.com/procircuit/tournaments/men's-tournament/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100034976

Today it was announced that Wake will host an ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit event the end of July. More info here http://www.wakeforestsports.com/sports/m-tennis/spec-rel/052915aaa.html

The Winston-Salem Open runs August 22nd through the 29th and will include many of the top 50 players in the world. More info here http://www.winstonsalemopen.com/

Looks like a pretty strong field for the Futures next week. Could be last chance to see Rubin play at Wake. Wish Wake was promoting it more, I feel like nobody knows it's happening

Max Kan is in the final round of qualifying today vs. Ryan Haviland, which will be a tough ask for Max. Noah will be in the main draw, and I think Jon Ho got a WC into the main draw as well. Keivon Tabrizi lost 5 and 1 this morning to former Elon #1, Cam Silverman, in a futures in Israel. Not sure what Romo is up to this week.
