The riddler! But the jokes on us.

Duke ran Kennard off 2 or 3 picks every possession. A switch to a 3-2 zone would quickly nullify that strategy. Wake has the personnel to run it well - it would have allowed us to play Collins and Moore down low to rebound better and complete defensive possessions (which was our true Achilles heel at the end of the game). It's usually harder to rebound out of zone, but we were struggling to get defensive rebounds at the end because we were playing small.
Duke ran Kennard off 2 or 3 picks every possession.
At different points in the game tonight we tried Wilbekin, Crawford, Woods, and Arians on Kennard. He shot 100% from 3 against all of them.
Duke used whoever Wilbekin was guarding to screen for Kennard a few times, forcing a switch and giving Kennard an open look. So we used Wilbekin to try to deny him the ball and whoever's man screened would switch to challenge a shot. But it ended up being Collins who was picked, not a guard, and he hesitate on the closeout and got stuck doing nothing.
The problem is just Wilbekin being on the floor at all. We're up and need a stop and he's a horrible defender. He gets 26 minutes, makes one shot, gets zero boards, one bullshit assist and one bullshit steal. We don't trust McClinton, fine. They're playing 3 guards so Dinos has nobody he can defend. It's just a fucking shit situation because we have no athletic 3 we can depend on to stop anyone. As was discussed ad-nauseum beforehand, in crunch time it bit us in the ass.
Where's Cornelius Hudson when we need him?
There should have been a foul called on Kennard's game winning shot. Look at the replay- Kennard was wide open because Giles landed a huge moving screen on Wilbekin that pushed him out of bounds. This happened 5 ft in front of the ref.
+1.
Collins, Moore and Dinos played a combined 53 minutes. That leaves 27 minutes with one low post player and four undersized perimeter players on the floor. The result was Duke had a seven rebound advantage and 12 offensive rebounds. Three of those offensive boards were in the final four minutes and led to eight of Dukes final 14 points. One of the few consistent aspects to the Deacs game is that they will blow a lead with the small lineup.

I have no idea if your solution would've worked or not but guess what? Danny didn't do it and probably won't be reading your post and following your advice! But it's good to know that you (and maybe other posters) have it all figured out and that we're just a couple of strategic moves away from an NCAA berth!
Yep, that is correct and was obvious in real time. However, after their previous offensive possession in which Kennard should have been called for a charge for flattening Crawford before his pass to Allen it was clear the refs had swallowed their whistles (which is maddening given how they had called the rest of the game).
Yeah why was he even on the floor after the TO? Whom on Duke's team are you comfortable with him guarding there?
How does Wilbekin's FT prowess help up 1 on defense? Got to get a stop before planning to get fouled.
It's a good lineup but only when the other team is putting us on the line. It's like Manning assumed Duke would foul us when in reality Duke exploited our lack of height with offensive boards.Nailed it. WF goes super small at the end of games with Chill, Welbekin, Woods and Crawford all in at the same time; every time WF does this it blows leads (WF almost blew the entire lead at State; fell apart late at Cuse, blew at 10 point lead against Duke). Duke predictably scored on 3 of its key late game possessions by getting second shots because WF gave up offensive boards with only had one player on the Court taller than 6-3. So frustrating to watch WF get leads playing a bigger lineup, and then watching them evaporate with a smaller lineup. Playing 4 guards at the same time is the recipe for disaster.
