Ongoing gun violence/injury thread

Will be interesting to see how often they have “natural disasters” and who gets to determine when that rule’s in effect

5 dead, 21 injured....

Sad...but not sad enough for bought and paid Republicans to demand that Moscow Mitch do something.

White guy uses AR 15 to kill people again. And trump comes out today snd says background checks “wouldn’t have stopped” the guy. Another day of innocent people dying that is preventable. “Pro life” Republicans rejoice over getting to keep their semi auto guns once again.

If these were Muslims doing these mass shootings, there would be a Muslim ban on guns right now.

I’m afraid the reaction would be a lot more aggressive than banning Muslims from buying guns.

But either way...yeah it’s absolutely insane that we just throw up our hands and say T’s and P’s when it’s a white male shooting 20+ people including a 17-month old in the face. If the shooter was a Muslim...we would already be dropping bombs on Afghanistan.

There’s no interest from the right in doing something about it.

Rick Scott said on one of the Sunday talk shows this morning, in response to a question about whether there were too many guns in the country, that he "believed in the Second Amendment" and "didn't want to take guns away from law-abiding citizens." Instead, he wanted to focus on people that were mentally ill and keeping them from getting guns. The problem, he said, is not that we have too many guns, but we have too many mentally-ill people who aren't getting help, and they should be "tagged" as a threat and prevented from getting guns. As others on this thread have mentioned, I have little doubt that if the recent shootings in TX and OH were caused by a Muslim-American or Latino immigrant, Scott's response would be completely different.

Why would anyone be against expanded background checks before purchasing a lethal weapon? And why does any private citizen need an automatic or assault-type weapon? Those are two things that everyone should agree with.

Well, according to gun nuts the sacred Second Amendment obviously includes military-grade rapid-fire weapons, and besides, ordinary, God-fearin', white American folks will need those powerful guns to fight the government when it inevitably makes its final move under some secular LibDem POTUS (probably the Antichrist) to create a dictatorship and take their precious guns and bibles away. And that distrust of government is also why you can't have background checks, because giving even an inch to the gun-control crowd will lead to even hunting weapons and shotguns being taken away, and then they'll have nothing to defend themselves with. Or so they say.
