Wake Forest Football Recruiting

Dude says that Hartman is an NFL draftee and I’m the one trolling ?

It seems that Clawson is taking a page out of the Jim Grobe playbook - when high caliber coordinators leave, try to replace them on the cheap with younger coaches who are not yet ready. Time to upgrade the DC. It has been obvious for a few years.

WFU'77 is right. Clawson must focus on the D (regardless of the number of plays we run and regardless of the eternal depth issues). And a thorough evaluation of how he and the OC make decisions in the very critical situations would help. Through the years it is not always the best choice of plays: really below par when we're realy in the tight spots (and that may be the case for most coaching staffs when you're back is against the wall). Where Clawson is GREAT, truly great, is preparation and game plannning. Not many out there much better. Given all the above he has to develop much better defenses somehow some way. Deacs WILL not knock off any giants until that happens. You cannot live off shoot outs for 12 games.

Sam Hartman's bad day at the office SHOULD provide him a great opportunity to rise to the next level. It has happened before in college careers for QBs and can happen with him. This is internal stuff that he and the coach have to work through. Case can be made that Coach should have sat him down after the 3 pick at least for a series (opposite case can be made more easily, hence). Ya never want to see such a talent crack like Wendesday but it happened, and it does not happen in a vacuum. It was pretty obvious in the 2d Qtr. Sam was not right. And it got worse from there.

If the guys who think they're riding the pine don't fully understand "next man up" then they need to play for another Coach in another sport or just join the student body. Wednesday's game and the 2020 season proved that truth.

Next year we will be better but some other teams will be too.

PFF Mock Draft released yesterday has our own Boogie Basham #23 to Miami. Remind me how far he has developed thru his years at Wake? Ranking coming out of HS? Felt it needed discussion in this thread.

Boogie was a three star with 0.8161 rating
1698 national ranking.

We HAVE to see a bump in recruiting soon or we never will.

We have the 3rd most players put on All ACC teams since 2017 and we have the dead last recruiting class every year.

Losing Crowell to State and Sims to VPI just doesn't make sense either. Higgins is as good as it gets at developing receivers and we are putting 2 and 3 star receivers on practice squads and about to get 1 drafted. Wouldn't be surprised to see Roberson and Greene ultimately drafted as well. It's time for some chips to fall our way.

16 and 17 y/o kids are one thing, but you gotta think that these kids parents are taking notice of what our staff is doing with lesser recruits. It's mind blowing we aren't bringing in top half of ACC talent every year at this point.

Clawson states repeatedly that we are a "developmental program". So yes that would appeal to parents who think their 3-star kid should or could be a 4 or higher, but not sure how the parent of a 4 or 5 star views our "developmental" status.
But yes, I agree we should be pulling in some higher caliber recruits, but only to compliment the solid base we are getting now. How Duke beats us on the recruiting trail for some of the same targets is a mystery to me.

They should see 3*->NFL takes 5 years, so 4*->NFL in three or four could happen.

We offered a 3 star RB from NJ today per twitter. Vandy appears to be our major comp for him.
