BillBrasky Memorial Political Chat Thread

yeah i bet that's fucking weird as hell.

i don't even notice pharma ads anymore. it's such a style of advertising that each one is a parody of itself.

being an American is pretty weird

I'm curious about the psychology and economics of drug ads for drugs that require prescriptions

I've never once gone to the doctor to ask for a drug brand by name

The drug ads are indicators of the misplaced priorities of our system of healthcare.

to be fair, i've never been faced with a diagnoses or situation where I might ask for viagra or an ADHD medication without the doc mentioning it. if I saw an ad for a vaccine-like treatment against Poison Ivy i'd call the doc today

it's one thing for the ads where you could potentially ask your dr about them like for ED or ADHD, but then the ads for advanced cancer drugs or whatever, who are those for?

Political Chat Thread - All Topics & Rants Welcome

I’m curious how pharmaceutical companies come up with new drug names. I’ve heard they market test them.

They must base it in large part on how the name will fit into the cringey new version of whatever nostalgic pop song they plan to license for their advertising.

I mentioned this on a different Pit Thread right after it happened, but I attended my first ever Democratic Party meeting, which was a Zoom precinct cluster meeting on Saturday, and when we broke out into breakout rooms I was elected precinct chair, mainly because I was under the age of 65 and knew how to use Zoom. The other youngish guy had run the precinct for the last four years and wanted to step aside, however he's still going to help me out and offered to host events at his nice house, and reach out to his contacts for fundraising help and speakers.

Is anybody else actually involved in party politics/fundraising and have any advice?

I was secretary of my local DSA chapter, but don’t think that experience would be very relevant to yours.

Unless you want to start meetings with singing 9 to 5. Or adjourning with Solidarity Forever.

Start each meeting with a prayer and the pledge.

How to become the Boss Tweed of Winston-Salem with the least possible effort

Nah I don't like know, like what kid of events to set up, how to contact people, how not to alienate potential voters with my Trotsky-eque views.

Yeah, the guy I took over for shared some observations that are probably similar to yours, but I wouldn't mind a DM with your thoughts if you don't mind.

As far as contacting people, I'd advise phone calls, text messages and maybe emails. You could also try writing letters and sending them via USPS.

You missed standing at the corner on a soapbox with a megaphone. Can't trust the post office to deliver in a timely manner.

I like this, go straight to the people, just paint a giant sign and march around the streets yelling really loudly. No need for a mega phone, those are an invention of capitalist pigs anyway.
