Greenland is pretty empty. Western Australia. Pretty sure all of Israel would fit in Montana or Central Canada.

Lots of places

part of the history of Israel is German Jews trying to get past a British blockade to make it to Palestine

Regarding the school protests, I'm not 100% sure what to think. I think these things (maybe?) are true for the most part:
  • there is a certain portion of protesting students who are earnestly pro-people of Palestine
  • being pro-people of Palestine does not necessarily equal pro-Hamas or anti-Israel
  • this distinction seems to be lost on some, or purposefully conflated by others who are pro-Israel, in order to discredit pro-Palestine aims
  • as is often the case, innocent civilians are collateral damage to shitty evil government on both sides
  • there is a certain portion of protesting students who are just kinda glomming on to the movement to feel part of something, or to 'virtue signal' ; some are just plain clueless
  • there are sometimes some number of agitators who interject themselves into protest situations such as these in order to further their political agendas (and sometimes with nefarious motives)
  • law enforcement/school administrations are walking a tightrope trying to referee all this, with varying levels of success, and are biased by their own motivations

CNN front page has a Columbia student leader getting banned from campus from saying Zionists don't deserve to live.

Always believed in the right to peacefully protest. Did my fair share back in the 60's. But when it interferes with the function of others or to turns to hate speech, I'm out.
I believe that 95% of the students feel the same but it's always <5% that f things up.

It seems inevitable that passionate engagement involves some degree of absurd oversimplification. Palestinians good/victims, Israelis bad. Or the other way around.

NOT feeding such hazardous narratives is part of what a more effective response to 10/7 could have looked like.

Can you explain what “interferes with the function of others” means? I don’t think I’m fully grasping what you mean by that phrase.

Yeah. “You’re lucky I’m not killing people” is the most pacifistic statement ever.

Depends on who it’s coming from. If a cop says it, it’s not non-violent. If it’s coming from a peaceful protester, it is.

Biff, why do cops protect neo-Nazis free speech rights but not pro-Palestinian/anti-Zionist college students?

I don’t give a fuck about the opinion or concern trolling of people who support billions of dollars in funding for the eradication of an an entire state and murder of 40 thousand people. Feel free to piss yourselves over some college protest signs. Walk around in your pissy pants, work up a nice chafe, and remember to go fuck yourself.

We’re waiting for the next mediocre white guy to shoot up a school or college. We watch mediocre people as cops beat up the college kids they claim to “protect and serve.” But a young Black person says you should be glad they’re not violent and somehow that’s the real threat?

Kind of simple. Blocking traffic; interfering individuals going to work. Interrupt the speech, rights, etc. of others.
