Please don't let this turn in to Wellman apologists chest thumping the [Redacted] hire.
More unsubstantiated rumors. I wasn't a fan of Dino as a coach, but by all accounts he was a good man and good representative of the university off the court and even on the court until about mid-February.
To be fair, none of it makes sense so people try to come up with or latch on to some explanation. Firing Dino is still incredibly perplexing, especially considering how patient we've been with his two successors.
There are certain people that noticed these things over ten years ago. It's not exactly a big surprise to anyone that was paying attention.
Which is why it was ridiculous for Wellman to hire him full-time and ridiculous for Wellman to give him an extension and then ridiculous on top of that fire him and owe him money blaming “culture.”
He's not a smart person. That was his rep at WF long ago (among other issues) and this rep has been emphatically confirmed. This should close the book on the tired argument that it was a mistake for WF to move on from Dino. Getting rid of Dino was the correct and necessary move. The problem was that WF's next two hires were somehow worse than the dope that WF dumped.
Were there that many people that disagreed with the firing at the time?
It was the gazillion decisions following his exit is what the majority of people had issues with. Those same decisions that landed us in a deep pit of misery.
Very few people were upset he was fired. They were excited ronnie pulled the trigger and was aiming for better. Then [name redacted] was hired.
