DFL in the acc again

And why did we fire Dino? I can't remember...

He won too much but could not lace up the sneakers correctly or pull up the socks in the right way. Other than that his 61-31 record was perfect. He even won an NCAAT game.

The simplest explanation has always been that Wellman saw Butler and Gonzaga winning with "four year players" and he got tired of Dino falling short in the postseason and losing players to the NBA. Wellman fired Gaudio based on lack of postseason success and made a pitch to Brad Stevens that was quickly rejected. Then he turned to bringing his buddy Jeff over to coach. He couldn't justify that with the postseason success so he turned to "culture" which was an amorphous term likely meaning winning like the mid-majors. The AD sycophants then took that and ran with all kinds of vague rumors that were left unchecked by the AD and Dan Collins and eventually spouted on ESPN to justify losing.

I think this is almost certainly what happened. I would add that Wellman likely had Bz on his short list after his Air Force team absolutely throttled Skip's Wake team.

I don't have a problem with:

- Hiring Dino after Skipped passed away
- Firing Dino when he did
- Even hiring Bz or hiring Danny

but the doubling down on Bz, the tone deaf response to fans upset by losing, and the endorsement of Bz throwing kids under the bus, and then giving what seems to be a ludicrous extension to Danny is pretty freaking inexcusable

I didn't have a problem with firing Dino if you were bringing in a better coach. I did have a problem with firing Dino and bringing in Jeffry B.

Re-litigating the Dino firing is an ogboards tradition I could do without. Especially when we can all come together to figuratively shit in Danny Manning's corn flakes.

Yeah, I don't think many had an issue with letting Dino go at that moment in time. Our issues are with every decision made after that moment which has led to a decade of futility with no end in sight.

Being a complete jerk to your boss doesn't seem to help one keep their job much either.

More unsubstantiated rumors. I wasn't a fan of Dino as a coach, but by all accounts he was a good man and good representative of the university off the court and even on the court until about mid-February.

^ and if true, cutting off our nose to spite our face didn't work out well either.

I will never be okay with Bz’s hire. It was 95% clear from his record and his demeanor that he would fail. I give him the 5% for all those nice write ups he had. But we all knew. Not even deep down. Surface level, we knew.

Danny I was nervous about but at least hopeful for. That’s what’s so hard about him. With his name I thought we were going to gain a recruiting edge, and maybe we had stumbled upon a sleeping giant. Instead what we got was a sleepy giant. Heyo

the writeups were the first clue that even the guy who hired him knew it was a horrible hire

Just looking at our Roster. . .Next year we lose Childress, White and Johnson and very likely could lose Brown and Sarr. So, we will be REBUILDING AGAIN! How a last place team is in a constant rebuilding mode is totally beyond me. And the pieces we have left are WOOF at best.

The sad part is that I don't even care anymore. College basketball is completely dead to me and I don't see myself ever coming back.

Your username is PERFECT lol.

Unless that stands for something else.

To paraphrase a quote about the 1981 MLB strike (and I can't recall the writer), none of this would be happening if John Currie was still alive.

The Danny Manning Show is on the air.

Email: "Danny, you've built the program to DFL in your 6th season. What else do you plan to accomplish with the program?"

"Well, I'm hoping the conference will add another school so that I can be the first one to coach an ACC team to 16th place."

Gosh, I had forgotten there was still a show. Can't they just have it at Stan's kitchen table with a few close friends?

Fun fact
From Nov 2000 to March 2010 we had two different 5+ game loosing streaks

From Nov 2010 to Feb 2020, we have had nine different 5+ game losing streaks, counting two that stretched across two seasons. If you count 10+ game losing streaks as two 5 game losing streaks, we have had 11. We're working on another if we drop the Clemson game and then lose at Louisville.

Very few liked the BZ hire, I actually thought DFL Danny might be a decent hire. To me the real sin is Well-man! and Madame Currie accepting and prolonging the failure and toxicity of these hires for years after any rational human being would have pulled trigger. College sports is a huge business and no business would have tolerated such failed performance from the CEO(s).

The big schools don't put up with this bullshit. They just can the coach and move on to the next one. Empty arenas/stadiums is not a good look. The latest best example of this is FSU. Taggert was a crappy coach. They recognized it, canned him and paid him off, and got the best coach they could find.

With the Joel almost empty for every home game, that's not a good look either. Surely Currie remembers the days when it was regularly sold out. Also finishing DFL again is the worst look with students and alums not even remotely interested in the program.
