Banning Critical Race Theory

She calls her gifted and talented class her other family. They don't have it in high school.

At least my daughter will earn her admission to Georgia Tech prick.

She calls her gifted and talented class her other family. They don't have it in high school.

Shall we abolish AP courses and IB courses next?

Arguing with conservatives is difficult because they get so hopped up on disinformation and misinformation specifically aimed to make them angry.

According to de Blasio, the new plan will get rid of "artificial barriers" that have plagued the Gifted and Talented program.
"We are getting rid of some of those artificial barriers. One artificial barrier was a test taken by 4 year olds. I think everyone knows by now, I don’t believe a single standardized test should determine anyone’s future at any age, and certainly not at the age of four," he said. "We are getting rid of a lot of the artificial barriers that limited the number of kids who could get accelerated learning because the previous approach limited that number severely."

Instead, the city will train teachers and prepare schools for a more inclusive model -- one based on an accelerated instruction format that will still pay special attention to children with unique abilities but will do so without separating classrooms.
"We’re investing in training all 4,000 kindergarten teachers so they can create rich learning environments in their classrooms…and learn to observe and identify students’ strengths and use that knowledge to differentiate learning within the classroom. This framework will keep our students together not separated out by a G&T label. Classrooms will house different instructional levels and tap into student’s unique interest," NYC Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter.
In other words, a program that once required rigorous testing for entry and included just 2,500 kindergarten students a year will expand to encompass tens of thousands of students -- no additional testing or funding from parents required, de Blasio said. Special instruction will include team teaching and digital components, among other efforts -- and additional monetary investment to train teachers.

In 2019, the city's School Diversity Advisory Group recommended phasing out the existed Gifted and Talented program, saying it was "unfair" and "unjust" and led to segregation. At the time, the New York Civil Liberties Union said 75% of the kids in the G&T program were white or Asian, even though white and Asian students only make up 30% of the district's enrollment.

center, do you believe white and Asian people are naturally more gifted than other races? Or do you believe that classifying children based on assessments that capture the advantages they've accumulated in four years without public formal schooling is the best way forward? Or are you just so angry about charge that it clouds your judgment?

Asian Americans perform better at all levels in K-12. They should have barriers, yet they break through them. Just the facts.

"The program has left behind Black students in particular. In 2019, Black students made up 15 percent of all public school students, but they took just 6.3 percent of all AP exams. For every Black student who scored a 5 on an AP exam (the highest possible score), 10 students scored a 1 (the lowest possible)."

So we're chucking this too?

God damn this is a real shitty thing to say to Ph. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Dude mostly posts angry, often rambling and borderline incoherent right-wing rants between 10 PM and 2 AM at night, and then he wonders why people think he's drunk-posting and that he's not really a centrist as he claims. Oh well.

What about the 1619 project?

Any New York, amongst other places, cancelling Gifted and Talented programs, claiming they are racist?

So you're conflating some schools using the 1619 Project and some schools dropping certain programs with CRT? What do you think CRT is, exactly (it's been explained on this thread plenty of times.)

Agreed. We're living through a massive assault on the very idea of experts and expertise. Trumpites and right-wing media have convinced many people that anyone with credentials or grad degrees or who is a professional in their field is really just a snooty elitist looking down their noses at "Real Americans" and that they actually don't know anything, so their advice is worthless. The assault on public education and the mythical CRT threat is another front in this culture war.
Rightwing conservative populism. This always turns out well.

WTF is this new lunatic CenterDeac even talking about on this thread? He's just having angry, nonsensical drunk conversations with himself.

His kid isn’t getting into GT on merit either they have an easier time coming from the backwoods middle of nowhere Georgia county he resides in than if they were from a high achieving metro area. Doesn’t seem very fair to me, sad!

Nobody out there actually thinks gifted education programs are racist do they? That's just center pissing into the wind.

The programs themselves, no. The way students are selected for them, yeah probably. Tons of opportunity for unconscious bias to seep in.

Not the programs themselves, but in to whom the opportunities to enroll are given, there is often a racial bias, resulting in a disproportionately white make-up of classes.

Holy cow the guy was all over the place last night. Hard to follow the line of logic, just flailing.

I think the guy used to be a proud conservative and is deeply embarrassed by what his party has become but doesn’t want to just deal with it so he desperately whatabouts his way through the death spiral.
