Armstrong to Admit Doping on Oprah

I agree that Lance is an asshole. That wasn't my point. I've just heard some people that are actin like lance came in and murdered innocent old women and babies.

I didn't know if there was a case of somebody more "innocent" than doping teammates or drug dealers. Some form of cheating has been going on since the inception of TDF. I don't know how you'd get through it without cheating.

I'm just interested to see more fall out with regards to people around him...there is NO WAY he did this, covered it, for all these years by himself.

I blame Bush.

So this interview is going to be broadcast over two nights. It will be interesting to see what they talked about for 2 1/2 hours if he didn't go into the details of the doping program.

Also saw that supposedly he's offered to repay $5M to USPS, which was rejected and offered the feds to be a witness for them which was also rejected.

Oprah: Lance, you know why you are here
Lance: Yes, I feel its time to come clean about my use of PED's
Oprah: Ok
Lance: I used PED's
Oprah: Ok
Lance: I'm sorry to everyone I lied to
Oprah: Ok, ummmmmmm
Lance: Hey oprah, how's your pussy? Do you have an afro bush?

followed by 2 hours and 15 minutes of awkward stare.

end interview

Glad you chimed in with that vadimivich. I had a father fighting cancer back when Lance was fighting it as well. I never had any misconceptions that Lance was a good guy or that he was innocent of doping, but to me he represented a guy who wasn't gonna take cancer lying down and was gonna fight it with every ounce of his being. That and the fact he was an American dominating a sport full of Europeans made it hard not to root for him.

I get that everyone dopes in cycling, but what is the variation between the best PEDs and lower level stuff? Or is everyone using the same thing?

on NPR they're talking about taking cycling out of the olympics until 'everything can get sorted out.'

...what does this mean?

in other news, as Triathlon becomes more popular I'm interested to see the allegations and testing that comes into play for those guys. It's been pretty loosely regulated until now.

it'd be pretty awesome if Lance started doing triathlons, and then in a few years when USA Triathlon starts doing their own testing, he gets busted again.

he already has. he's a very strong competitor in the half ironman distance.

i'd be willing to say even w/out doping, he's an extremely competitive athlete and there's no reason he can't do well in those races. granted, he might be doping... who knows... but he could probably win without it.

From June 2012:
"Seven-time Tour de France Lance Armstrong, fresh off his first 70.3 win in Florida just two weeks ago, used Ironman 70.3 Hawaii as preparation for his first Ironman in France in just three weeks. But he put in an impressive performance over triathlon veterans Greg Bennett and Chris Lieto to take his second 70.3 win in 3:50:55 and break the course record (previously held by two-time Ironman world champion Chris McCormack, who set the record of 3:57:18 in 2007). "

Lance is an amazing athlete even without the doping. The dude can run a 1:10 HM at 40 years old.

Sadly, he is banned from international ironman events by WTC. USAT still allows him to compete in theirs, but maybe not after this news.

Armstrong was a triathlon prodigy as a teenager. Not a stretch at all to think he could be highly competitive without drugs.

The only way LA provides any value at this point is to fully disclose how he got away with this for so long. As he said for years 'I'm the most tested athlete and I've never failed a test'.

Under the premise that 'everyone is doing it', it's surprising they can bring a full field to the line in the TDF.

Cycling has spent the last 15 years suspending some of it's biggest stars, but it's amazing that more have not been caught if doping is near '100%'.

He ruined several people's careers who wouldn't go along with him.

The green light for doping came on when the UCI set the max hematocrit level at 50 without having a reliable test for EPO. Guess what? Nearly every cyclists had hematocrit levels between 47-49 throughout every grand tour. Lance made sure all his horses were ready to roll. He was just too ruthless along the way and that's coming back to bite him in the ass. You can get away with being an asshole; you can get away with being a cheater; it's really hard to get away with being a cheating asshole. I think Lance is doomed.

Congrats, cycling. No one gives a shit about your sport again, and everyone still cheats

In other news, Armstrong sent Manti Teo flowers today to thank him for taking Armstrong out of the news cycle.

About 10 years ago I was talking with a guy at High Point Regional Hospital who was working as an exercise physiologist (I think, something like that) alongside their cardiologists. He was telling stories about some of the athletes he had worked with in his earlier days. He said most of them were like most people in that they would work hard during their workouts, but then get tired and stop after a certain amount of time. But he had met two athletes who he'd remember for always pushing themselves, even when most had hit that wall, to keep pushing to see how much further they could go, to try to beat what they had done before, etc. One was a young Lance Armstrong, when he was just starting out cycling.

The other was Muggsy Bogues.

He ruined several people's careers who wouldn't go along with him.

Cost many people mucho $$$ along the way and took many endorsements not owed him plus many appearance fees he will be getting sued for that he may owed back to entire countries.

Cycling is actually very healthy right now. The formation of the ProTour, stricter regulations and boom of likable young stars has dramatically helped the sport as a whole. Overall budgets are up nearly 40% since 2009 ... the sport is booming.
