actually the book i mentioned also discusses how gifts are inefficient from a cost standpoint, but also how they're better from a social standpoint. keeps us in the world of "social norms" instead of "market norms." seriously, it's a good book. i highly suggest reading it.

also, you weren't suggesting getting people something they NEED. you were suggesting sending them on an extravagant honeymoon.
