Basketball Transfers - Chase 1st to Leave, Others...?

You could make the case for the two years before that as well:

08 - Ty Walker stayed, Woods and Aminu left
07 - Gary Clark stayed, Johnson and Teague left

Ouch. Different reasons, but it still says something.

So the 2006 class, the last class that Skip coached, is the last one to retain more than one player. And even that class had 3 transfers out of 6 players.

2006 - Ish, LD, Chas, Skeen, Gurley, Crawford

We lost half of the players in the 2005 class...

2005 - Hale, Weaver, Swinton, Dukes

...the only player in the 2004 class....

2004 - CamStan

...3 of 4 players in the 2003 class.

2003 - Visser, Paul, Ingram, Hendley

It hasn't been since the 2002 class that a majority of the players stayed at Wake:

2002 - Big E, JGray, Trent, Ellis, Joyce

The moral of the story? When people say we shouldn't talk about transfers, they aren't looking at reality.

To sum it up, in the 9 freshman classes from 2003-11:

11 players completed their eligibility at Wake
4 players declared for the draft
16 players transferred

To respond to the multiple posts, I simply think that if Travis was going to leave he would have done it last year. It makes much less sense for him now. I don't see him transferring to another school because it delays him getting paid to play somewhere by a year.

You can definitely make the argument that he should go abroad now and start his professional career immediately. And PH makes a decent point that he hasn't historically improved since his freshman year so we shouldn't infer an extra year at Wake will get him there. But I think he really needs another year to improve his shot to be more successful professionally. Wake seems like his best option to do that.

But yes, I'm thinking wishfully because I like TM and want him to stay.

I thought Stanley graduated. I guess that's sort of splitting hairs, but I do regard post grad transfers as different.

Incidentally, when I checked to see if Stanley had graduated I stumbled on his LinkedIn profile which mentions he worked for the "Skip Brosser" basketball camp.

And half of those have been in the last 2 years?

JTT, Chennault, Carson, Tabb, Ari, Fields, Woods, ???

Stanley and Joyce did graduate. They didn't complete their eligibility at Wake though.

Bz was destroying our program by running players off while he was still at Air Force.

Chase is just the first guys...

I'll be shocked if we don't lose 1 or 2 of the freshmen.

Wrong tree, ACCOffice. I was critical of Skip's recruiting at the time; however, I didn't realize it was this bad.

I'm sure the numbers would be pretty bad going back to Odom's post-Duncan recruiting as well. This isn't just a [Redacted] problem. This is a Wake Forest basketball problem.

i'm not sure why, but I don't think any players are going to transfer. They've got this whole lovable losers-band of brothers thing going on.

I'm more inclined to go with the latter when it comes to the Freshman. Chase wouldn't surprise me at all b/c he's being marginalized

So if Chase transfers, that will give us three consecutive recruiting classes that whittled down to only one player.

2009 - CJ, Ari
2010 - Travis, JTT, Chennault, Carson, Tabb
2011 - Chase, Green, Fields

10 players. 3 stayed. So far.
Wow, this is just mind-blowing. Buzz, the ultimate loser.

and if they are whom i think they are, we are totally fucked next year. totally. fucked.

you won't even have to "hope" for a dumpster fire season....

Chase is transferring. Travis is still undecided. I'd be surprised if he left though just because I think last year was the time unless he's positioned to graduate. It's the best for both Chase and Wake he's going I think, he'll be really good at a mid-major (I think Marshall) and it's better for us overall.

we are a bad mid-major right now

Does anyone know how far along Travis is with his academics? Could he finish this summer? I echo what Racer said. If Travis feels it's in his best interest to spend his last year of eligibility elsewhere to boost his value in Europe, I fully support him. Wouldn't blame the kid one bit.

which freshman are people referring to? I actually assumed that class would stay in tact then fracture after next season simply because of numbers.

Same here. Given the numbers, I wouldn't be surprised if a freshman or two transferred, but I have no idea who. There's a good argument for all of them to stay. CMM may not be happy that he won't be the starting PG ever again, but he's slotted in at SG for the next 3 years.
