My ten favorite records so far this year:

10. Rice Cultivation Society - Sky Burial

Weird, folky, good guitars.

9. Laura Marling - Once I Was an Eagle

One of the best songwriters around. Good live performer too.

8. Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City

Terrible album name, great new direction for the band. Their best work yet.

7. Foals - Holy Fire

Tremendous guitar album.

6. The Men - New Moon

Interesting new direction.

5. The National - Trouble Will Find Me

Less solemn, more foreboding.

4. Waxahatchee - Cerulean Salt

Sad stoner music.

3. Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

The robots come alive to good results.

2. Kurt Vile - Walking on a Pretty Daze

The KING of Philly. I have basically already worn out this vinyl.

1. Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest

Year of the comeback bands, and this is the best one of all (m b v and David Bowie are pretty rad, too). Can't wait for my vinyl to arrive. The best ambient/experimental band of all time.

really reaching into the depths of the music catalog today for some throwbacks

By the way, new Local Natives album: some next level shit. Just stupid good.

Digging the shit out of this album.

Trying to figure out whether to go see Beach House Thursday at Neighborhood Theater. Have heard they suck in concert.

ETA: making the trip to see The National on Monday too.

I've seen them twice and they were tight both times. I wouldn't hesitate to go.

They basically sound exactly the same as they do on the album. The vocals don't lose a step.

Thanks for the heads up, grabbed me some tix this morning.

Also going to see The National / Dirty Projectors on Monday. Really wanted to see Passion Pit and Cults (they're in Cary on Tuesday and Charlotte on Thursday), but doesn't look like it'll happen.

heard Passion Pit got moved to Fillmore....guessing lack of ticket sales.

Going to Langhorne Slim/Matrimony tonight at the Fillmore, The National on Monday in Raleigh, Beach House or Passion Pit Thursday, and hope to talk the wife into Local Natives at the Music Farm in Charleston next Tuesday since we will be on vacation 30 minutes away.

I will be at the Local Natives show at Music Farm. Can't wait to see them live. Heading to Lumineers this Friday as well so looking forward to some good music coming up.

Local Natives were stupid good when I saw them live in Boston in 2010. One of my all-time favorite concerts.

I went to Langhorne last night too. Great show. i was impressed by Matrimony too, terrible name though

Agree on all counts BullDeac. Pleasant surprise.

Scored front row seats to see tedeschi trucks band at miller symphony hall. Very excited.

Father John Misty was a BLAST. Unbelievable vocals. Encored with two new songs and Happiness is a Warm Gun.

On top of the tremendous playing, the showmanship dude puts forth is just top notch. Such a performer. His banter is hilarious, as you might imagine from the funny lyrics on the album.

Don't miss his show if he's near you. Can't wait for more music outta him.
