Totally Unofficial Summer Transfer Thread 2011 (NWT)

Ok, that's going too far. You loved Jorge Campos? Next your going to say that Cuauhtémoc Blanco is one of your footballing heroes. How about El Matador Luis Hernandez? You grew out your hair and dyed it blonde just like him when you were a kid, didn't you?

Blanco is a prick. Hernandez was a stud. Hated Borgetti, tho.

Go to a US-Mexico match some day, and I'm sure you'll come out hating them. Their fans are truly awful.

We all can agree that dv7's semi-love affair with El Tri is his biggest downfall, right?

Hahaha. I don't love the team, but I do like some of their players. I don't see much wrong with that.

It's not like I support those shit bag Argies. Amirite?

Uh, no. Fans of the USMNT hate one team - MEXICO. Put it this way, when Blanco played for the Fire (the MLS team I support) I would not count any goals he scored. Mexico's team and all of their players are to be loathed. Facht. End of story. Hating any other team more than Mexico means you are NOT a USMNT fan.

I didn't know DeacMan supported the fire. That's cool. Hopefully Kloppas plays Bone more than de los Cobos did.

The stadium is maybe 20 minutes from my in-laws place. I actually played against Frank in a game back in the day. He was older than me and I remember being completely overwhelmed (guy could fly with the ball) until two or three years later I had the chance to play with/against the Snow brothers on a few occassions (that is beyond flattering for my pretty much complete lack of talent). They were by far the best players I ever shared the field with. Kenny won the Hermann twice at IU. Bastard scored the greatest goal I was on the field to witness in the State tourney to knock us out. Friggin picked a cross out of mid air, tossed it over his head without letting it hit the ground and then volleyed it into the upper 90 from about 25 yards. His brother Steve was a couple of years younger and an UNREAL talent but was completely mental - like I swear I thought he was ill. I think he went to IU as well but was forced out after, and this is just alleged from others who were closer to him, he assaulted someone. But for the fact he was a piece of work, he likely would have become a legend. He was that good. He could pretty much score at will. Changed pace with unreal control and a wicked finisher. Dominant youth player of his generation. Have to imagine anyone who coached him couldn't stand him. Type of guy people on his own team wanted to punch.

Only more talented and with a much better upside.

Eh. I don't rate Defoe all that highly, but the guy does have 100 career PL goals. Hernandez is also only 5 years younger than Defoe - he's really not that young. People forget that at 21 Defoe already had put together a couple of quality seasons at West Ham and scored 41 goals for them. At 23 (Hernandez age right now) he scored 22 goals in 44 apps. At his age, the upside Hernandez has is pretty much what he is now. He's a quick tiny striker who lives on breaking offsides traps and finished chances generated for him by other players.

Defoe is probably the better hold up player (Hernandez is horrible in this area), Hernandez is faster and is the better pure finisher. Neither are really "great" players, but they can flourish when provided with good service from the mid-field or a strike partner.

In short, Hernandez is just the flavor of the month poacher. They are a dime a dozen and they come and go. But if you take them out of the system they are great in, they aren't good enough to do anything else. I picked Defoe because he's the one I know best, but there's any number of them you can compare Hernandez too. He's a "fox in the box", but let's not get ahead of ourselves and start calling him a great striker yet (or act like he's miraculously going to grow into one at the age of 23).

Chicharito will end up closer to the level of Inzaghi then Defoe. That's my prediction.

His hold up play, while still not at all good, is a lot better than it was back at the beginning of the season. His body strength has also improved ten fold.

I can't stand him. He is very good. Unreal speed and quickness and good in the air too. And at 23 he is still a ways from his best.

He just turned 23 today. Defoe turns 29 in October.

That was very disingenuous, vad.

I wonder if our guys are looking at Ever Banega.

I wonder if anyone's looking at him for that matter cause you rarely hear him linked with a lot of big clubs.

Seems like he's got all the makings on a world-class CM

- neat in the tackle
- good work rate
- eyes for goal
- expansive and incisive passing range
- confident dribbler

this youtube channel has a lot of good videos for some of the hot prospects too btw.

At age 23 Inzaghi scored 24 Serie A goals in 33 matches for a crappy Atalanta squad that only scored 44 goals as an entire team. He scored at least one goal against every other team in Serie A that year.

Inzaghi is on another planet from guys like Hernandez. Let's be serious now.

I'm not sure what Chicharito does while wearing a United shirt impacts the USMNT, unless he is tackling an American player or something.

Just because he plays for Mexico doesn't make him hateable. Playing for Mexico and being a twat like Marquez makes someone hateable.

I actually like the Mexican national team, I'd cheer for them before I cheered for most other nations. Other than the USA, Ireland, and England.

Have you been around Mexican football fans? I'd cheer for the Taliban national team before I cheered for El Tri.
