Sigur Ross and Deerhunter are actually not that dissimilar esp if you take into account that Deerhunter plays Atlas Sound stuff sometimes.

When I am trying to get in touch with the whitest, most soulless anglo side of myself, and really need to blast some nordic tunes, I go with the Knife. Just as soulless as Sigur, but more interesting. Also, you can pronounce the names of their songs, and they also make um, interesting videos.

I was actually referring to Raleigh. I guess the same thing happens in Philly? I'll be in Philly all next week -- I guess I should see if there are any good shows.

Yeah Philly has a tendency to have the clumping phenomenon happen.

Digging this Houndmouth album From the Hills Below the City.

Some pretty good albums dropping June 18th...

You got Hanson, 3OH3!, among others.

If Random Access Memories, Modern Vampires, and Yeezus all debut at #1, I have to think this is a pretty damn good year for popular music.

they're playing a bunch of jaco pastorius as house music before this show tonight and i'm digging the shit out of it

I really want to go see Titus Andronicus tonight. They're at the same venue I saw Baths last night (awesome place and show), and I fucking love seeing this band live. They absolutely shred. However, much of the fun rests in flailing around in the pit, and I have a hairline fracture in my foot I'm supposed to stay off of. The obvious punk thing to do would just be suck it up, saw off my foot at the ankle, and go rage. However, the other half of me just wants to take it easy and rest up for more shows next week, where I can do the hipster thing and lean against the wall and look like I'm having a terrible time.

Thoughts?

Saw Dawes @ Cat's Cradle Wednesday night and then the Lumineers last night @ Koka Booth. 2 pretty solid shows. Didn't know much about Dawes going into Wednesday night but I'm a fan now. I have to say that Cat's Cradle on Wednesday night was the hottest place I've ever been. I was wringing sweat from my tshirt after the show.

Just pound some drinks brah. I was considering trekking down for that show tonight. Union Transfer is a dope venue.

So I need help from the music nerds. I'm not a music guy. I've never been a music guy. I've always been a sports guy and pretty much all I listen to is sports talk radio (unless there's nothing interesting on and then I'll pop in a CD - typically Country).

I didn't even know what Bonnaroo was until I looked it up on Wikipedia this morning. I know about eight of those bands and most of them I just know one song. Like I know "Hey Ho" by the Lumineers but nothing else....I've heard that one Mumford song and had to look it up to see what it was ("I Will Wait"). The only Wilco song I know is "California Stars."

Townie, I mentioned something like this in one of the numerous "Most Obscure Band" lists that you were putting up for a while. I don't want the weird, quirky, off beat, fringe-of-the-fringe kind of music...I'm looking for some songs that are closer to mainstream but will still introduce me to some new bands and new music.

Can anyone help?
