Official 2013 NBA Draft Thread - That was great.

The Bobcats would be crazy to spend a penny on free agents. In fact, they should let Mullens and Henderson go. There is no point in their winning 30 games next year. since that's the case, they should set 18 wins as their goal to ensure a Top 4 pick.

You don't let Henderson, go obviously. He should be relatively cheap to keep, is a good player for the future rebuild, and wants to play in Charlotte. Also, he's not going to swing too many wins next year anyway. You let Mullens go because, in the end, he's not very good. McRoberts is a better backup to Zeller, and likely cheaper. (As I wrote this I saw a tweet saying they'll extend a QO to Hendo but not to Mullens.)

The Doc/Simmons thing is getting uglier. Not a good look for either of these guys:

What are Henderson's +\- numbers? Didn't they play some of their best basketball without him in the lineup? He seems to just put his head down and force something on offense more often than not.

Not sure about +/-, but I'd disagree that he's a bad offensive player. He doesn't have a consistent three-ball yet, but his mid-range and transition games are good, plus he can get to the rim. He was just asked to do too much. The Bobcats ran some interesting stuff playing Kemba next to Sessions, but it's not really sustainable IMO.

Hendo is the most complete NBA player they have right now, the best veteran (though still young), the locker room leader, and was putting up some crazy numbers to end the season. He's a keeper, I think. In fact, I think he's highly underrated -- I think he'd be extremely valuable on a good team -- and that should work to the Bobcat's benefit to resign him.

But I agree with RJ that, outside of resigning Henderson and McRoberts, if I were Cho I wouldn't sign any other free agent player for more than a one-year contract.

Simmons is likely a flavor of the month. He's a hack homer. If he gets fired, in three years, people will be asking, "whatever happened to Simmons?"

This is so far from true it's astonishing. He's the biggest thing at ESPN by far and has been for 3+ years. He ain't goin anywhere.

Yeah, I hate Bill Simmons, but in no way, shape, or form is he a flavor of the month. He's a hack homer who almost singlehandedly transformed the way that the blogosphere, mainstream and otherwise, writes sports op-ed. Not only that, dude made the jump to mainstream media and broadcasting. That's unbelievable, in this day and age, considering where he started.

Meh. I'm not sure how you can disregard +/- in 2013 in an evaluation of a players' offensive abilities. Great. He scores. But he's also remarkably inefficient. Hopefully he takes the next step from productivity to productivity + winning basketball.

You really don't understand the Internet, do you?

If he doesn't stop this, ESPN will have to make a decision. If he doesn't stop, the NBA will not want him on TV.

Agree with the last three posts. The only thing Simmons is threatening is his new in-studio incarnation. He's still arguable the dominant voice in online sports journalism. But that "Glenn" tweet is borderline a threat, deserved or not. You just can't do that and work for ESPN or the NBA in the capacity he wants to.

+/- is pretty freaking heavily influenced by playing on the worst offensive and worse defensive team in the league for two straights years (and of all time). That inefficiency is direct result of being asked to carry an offense and not be part of one. If you watch him play, you can see his value. And he's capable of 30 point nights, which not every player is.

So what? He's a writer. He'll keep writing, either for ESPN or somewhere else. He's already shown he can build a website from the ground up. If ESPN fires him and/or the NBA tries to get him off TV, he'll become a counter-culture phenomenon. He's not as untouchable as Barkley, but he's close.

Okay, so it's great that he's improved. There's no desire that he's a much improved player and arguably a starting-caliber shooting guard for, at least, half of the teams in the NBA.

"That inefficiency is direct result of being asked to carry an offense and not be part of one" - That isn't true. In any shape or form.

He's wildly inefficient because he's neither a good finisher (46.2% 2FG) nor perimeter shooter (33% on just 1.5 attempts per game) and he still never gets to the line enough to compensate.

According to @SeanGrandePBP: Doc Rivers & @BillSimmons spoke on the phone last night and put their "beef" to bed. #Celtics

I wouldn't call him "wildly inefficient." His Adjusted PER (Hoopdata stat) is 6th in the league among SGs that played 25 minutes per game. His TS% has increased each year and this year was better than Joe Johnson, Klay Thompson, JJ Redick, Iggy, and JR Smith.

By threat, you meant threat of a lawsuit right?

It was hyperbole. I tried to acknowledge that, while he has taken some legitimate strides, dude still doesn't get to the line, make threes, or finish.
