2018-2019 NHL Thread – Thunderstorm Warning

The mystery free agent that the Canes were talking about apparently was/is Brendan Morrow. As time goes on, though, it seems less and less likely he will sign in Carolina since they would need to make a trade to make it happen. Seems unlikely they would do that for a one year rental.

May have dodged a bullet with that one.

Interesting article on advanced stats in hockey, and the Kings in particular:

How the Los Angeles Kings Corsi'd their way to the NHL's elite

I’d love for Hextall to bring some of the Kings’ front office mentality to the Flyers. Though, in fairness to Homer, for all the talk of him trading away good puck possession players in Richards and Carter, the players he got back have been good at puck possession as well. Voracek, in particular, is amazing.

The "Metropolitan" division? Really?????

Also tough opening for the 'Canes. vs DET, vs PHI, @ PIT, @ WASH, vs LA, vs PHX, vs CHI, at TO. We'll know just how good we are this year pretty quickly

lol.

That needs a nickname or something.

Have the Caps made any moves other than wisely choosing not to over pay Ribiero?

NHL Opening night is October 1st, including Leafs @ Habs, Jets @ Oilers, and the defending champs hosting the Caps.

Washington only plays in Raleigh twice this season, bummer. I'm going to make plans to go to both.

I think GMGM forgot that there was no lockout this year and went on vacation for the summer.

Still could end up with Grabovski, though.

October 1st? Thats so early, or last year was so late, one of the two

Actually both. It's uber early because of the two-and-a-half week break for the Olympics.

Still I was stunned by just how early it is

I wouldn't say that. For one, Carolina are usually slow starters. For two, there are a number of new players on the 3/4 lines and blue line. It may take a couple of weeks before they round in to form.

Now let's see if Lindholm is able to play after that injury yesterday...

If that's the case, I hope we don't get buried right out of the gate

Yeah, let's hope this isn't 2010 where the slow start became the season being over by November.

Apparently Jagr is close to signing with the Devils. If he signs with the Islanders next year, he'll have the complete Patrick set!
