New Braves Stadium

I'm against it because downtown baseball is >>>>>>>> suburb baseball, as we've seen at a huge number of parks the last 20 years.

I'm also against it because it says some pretty horrible things about race relations and the general structure of the city of Atlanta and it's surrounding suburbs.

Yeah dont see that angle.

1. Braves have the cheapest tix in town (as go mentioned you can get in the door for $5 most days)
2. the current stadium is in the middle of a predominant African American area (and it is a waaay easier drive up to the Ted from the southside than coming in from the north)
3. We have 3 of the best young AA outfielders in the game

Still, ATL AA's just don't really attend the games. Its probably 85/15 white/black. There have been a million sports pieces on why AAs arent drawn to baseball these days. I cant answer that question, but the stadium isnt moving away from minorities, its moving closer to the people who pay to watch the bulk of the games. Its just about $$$.

The stadium is moving closer to the people who moved away from the minorities and pay to watch the bulk of the games.

Real curious to see how they're going to fund a half billion dollar subsidy without raising taxes.

If you build it, "they" will come.

People are calling this the "suburbs" like there's nothing out here but single family houses. This location is only about a mile and half outside the Atlanta city limits, and surrounded by large office buildings (including several high-rises). The Cumberland/Vinnings area has more office space than downtown Miami. Home Depot HQ is only about a mile away (naming rights?).

There are several transportation projects including a Tram/ped bridge going in that will help a ton.

This is all about money, again, the Braves can't afford 14k to show up to a game on a Wednesday night. This new stadium will never have less than 20k unless our product goes down which I suspect it won't w/ all the youngsters on the team right now.

They're also getting a brand new stadium at a 70% discount. I don't think anyone is questioning this from the team's perspective.

They have never won a World Series at The Ted so they might as well try somewhere else!

@790TheZone: Cobb County confirms they will finance 45% of the new #Braves stadium with 55% of the 672 million dollar project coming from the team.

editorial from the Atlanta mayor saying they're going to bulldoze Turner Field in 2017 and do infill development. If they actually do pull off a major mixed use type redevelopment on that site it would be a huge urban planning coup (and property tax windfall) for the city of Atlanta.

Should be interesting.

I'm rooting for the City in its fight against the Southside of town and in some places its working, some places its not.

It's interesting how similar the apparent vision for the new Braves park and the surrounding area is to that of the Oakland A's when they were proposing to build in Fremont, CA.

So over over $8.5MM is coming from ?????? unless I'm missing something. They are reallocating dollars, but I did not see mention of where that money is coming from.

It seems to me that 30 year bonds for pro stadiums make absolutely no sense in the modern era. A total of 6 teams play in a ballpark that is over 30 years old in the majors, and the Braves, of course, are not one of them.
