What's the worst football hire Wellman could make? (No Lobo)

Duke's had a revival with an ex-Manning coach. Wellman could decide to bring in his own and rehire Caldwell.

Ron could be compiling an impressive list of quotes and recommendations right now. Forget "could be", I'm sure he is, whoever the new coach is.

I actually had someone try to sell me on Bowden. Knows the ACC, reasonable success, had some background at a private school before. Not wanting..

what if as an ultimate display of hubris wellman hires himself as football coach?

I have been waiting for this thread. Wellman is looking for the Buzz of college football. Ron English is available after being fired midseason for using expletives and a homophobic slur in a tirade to his team.

2009 Eastern Michigan 0–12 0–8 6th (West)
2010 Eastern Michigan 2–10 2–6 6th (West)
2011 Eastern Michigan 6–6 4–4 T–4th(West)
2012 Eastern Michigan 2–10 1–7 6th(West)
2013 Eastern Michigan 1–8 0–5 (West)
Eastern Michigan: 11–46 7–30

I'm telling you this is Wellman's guy. Look at that career head coaching record! No one knows about him, so Wellman can feel good about "finding" him. Can get him cheap (plus no buyout), from the MAC conference, former defensive assistant at Michigan, Louisville and Arizona St. Played safety at Cal. You know he can get some good quotes from players and coaches at those schools.
Of the 124 Division 1-A college football schools, only 15 had African American coaches in the 2012 season, according to an executive report by the Black Coaches Association. Wellman gets to feel good about himself for hiring an African American.

Anybody from the Grobe coaching tree. Time for a clean break, new start.

Ted Roof is a good call. The guy really is the [Redacted] of football coaches.

As bad as Roof was as Duke's head coach, he is still better than [Redacted]. Roof was DC on Auburn's national championship and DC for Penn St. last year when they greatly exceeded expectations. And he is still under 50. I better stop talking just in case Ron is reading this thread.

John Bunting

P.S. I see a bunch of old white retreads with marginal career records in this thread. I really feel like if we had done the same thing 4 years ago for the basketball search, somebody would have come up with Jeff [Redacted].

Anybody old who's "been there" but hasn't "done that."

A la [Redacted].
