Dan's Latest MTOW

Dan awkwardly tries to insert basketball into a football column. And, he's got it backwards - Bz burned some of Grobe's goodwill, not the other way around. We are the opposite of Auburn. They're a football school; we're a basketball school.

Is there a longtime member of the Wake Forest athletics family who has not taken a significant tumble in terms of reputation? Dan is really insufferable these days.
 
It's strange to see an AD being so openly defiant toward the fans.
 
Keep basketball away from this. PLEASE.

The only basketball connection should be that paying less money to our football coach means we can start paying it to our new bball coach in March

Agreed. What an outrageous and arrogant statement by Ronnie. Really poor form but shows his true colors. Thanks for highlighting.
 
Good article IMO. The Bzz hire has cast a dark cloud over WFU for 3 1/2 years. It has affected the football program. When Skip and Grobe were both new at WFU, I'm sure the atmosphere in the athletic department was great. It must have been depressing in the offices during the past few years.
 
I'm normally a fan of Dan's work, but I thought this wasn't necessarily his best job. I didn't see the relevance in the basketball discussion and thought he had a big set up for really no pay off. The last part about Clawson killing the press conference is beyond accurate and I don't know why that wasn't the focus of his piece.
 
i long to have the ignorance of the schmuck who isn't pissed off about bzzzz in mid-february because we had a 8-5 season in football

I also found the "public school" ref to just be silly. Whether he's repping UNC or thumbing his nose at the boards - it has no place in an article celebrating the new coach. Dan and Ron should just retire already.
 
Football had it's own dark shadows for many many years. People just opened their eyes because they had to close them during basketball season.

The public school ref was silly because anybody with a clue knows 20 wins won't get this team near the bubble.

It's what he has to say even though we know he thinks otherwise. I wouldn't read too much into it.
 
What do you mean? He could easily say, "Of course I think about the fans."

No, the public school ref was silly because it was clearly a shot at the boards when it was completely unrelated to the issue he was referencing.
 
That was just Country Dan being Country Dan. I know a shot at the boards when I see one.
 
I thought it was a good article. Dan loves the deacs and has a good understanding of the gloom and doom that's been here since Skips passing. The unfortunate path the school has chosen with Dino, Buzz and a horrible football team has put a dark cloud over the school for the past few years...
Anyhoot, I've been pumped all day and watched the presser two times now and just love some of the quotes from the presser today... Claws is here to stay and I'll be coming down from the mountains watching some deacon football again...
