Wake Hires Kevin Higgins (Citadel HC) As Assistant Head Coach

I echo whomever questioned why he would coach receivers when he ran the triple option. Might be a great addition, but it seems he would coach a different position.

I assume that Higgins was under fire?

Perhaps Clawson accepted less money in order to increase the salary of his assistants; otherwise it is hard to understand Higgins accepting substantially less money and a demonition.

Solid pick up, a lot of winning experience, and NFL experience should help on the recruiting trails. Clawson has brought a lot of positives in such a short period of time.

Clawson actually coached under Higgins when they were at Lehigh.

That makes sense. I am sure this is something that the two have discussed for a while of Clawson ever got to a spot where he could afford to hire Higgins.

Why would a former NFL WR coach switch to the triple option? Certainly worked in 2012.

He doesn't seem to have been under fire. Maybe he wanted to work with The Claw again. Who knows?

Maybe he just LOVES WAKE FOREST

Still wonder if we have restructured the salaries for assistants. We are getting guys with experience and credentials. That cannot be cheap!

Interesting that Clawson would go outside his former staff to hire the assistant HC, especially since both coordinators are coming with him.

Maybe had to give him the title to justify a larger salary for a position coach.

Higgins was the OC at Lehigh under clawson so he has plenty of experience running an offense other than the triple option.

Edit: I obviously got this backward but in my defense I was in the car with my two kids when the news came on the radio and I was trying to hear above the yammering from the backseat!

Was posting on the other thread, but will post here. Looks very solid. He was pretty mediocre at Citadel. Is that to be expected? I don't know much about them or the SoCon but his numbers there over nine years are not very good. Anyone with some context?

Some coaches make better assistants and some are better head coaches. Clawson sucked epically as an OC at TN, but he has won a championship/conference at every place he's been a head coach.

Clawson was at UT for 1 year. That is not a test.

Yeah, and there's all sorts of reasons to explain it...but it was still the worst statistical offense in over 30 years at TN. Which is fine, because he's not the OC coach for Wake.

I'm gonna go with my co-worker who is a UT grad and about their biggest fan ever and disagree with you on that mess being Clawson's fault.

I don't think anybody sane criticizes Clawson for his one year at Tennessee. Even the Tennessee boards said that it was Fulmer being a moron.

To Racer's point though, it doesn't really matter since he's not the OC here.
