Who even cares anymore??? I hate to say that as I used to set my calendar around Wake basketball games. Now I don't care. I am not alone. When one tunes into an espn3 game, I doubt there are 1000 people in attendance. More importantly, no students. What a shame. Even in the dark years during the Staak era, we showed up for the games. Now.....not so much.

How can the administration not see this??? College athletics are an important part of marketing our great University and with the obvious challenges to be consistently successful at football, basketball is the ticket and the current folks in charge have our athletic program in the worst shape in many decades. Board of Trustees, PLEASE ACT!!!

Agree. Wellman needs to take the high road like Grobe and call it a career at WFU. NOW.

I DVRed the game because I had to be somewhere. I watched the beginning to see if they mentioned Skip then fast forwarded to the half. I then decided to fast forward to when the Deacs got it down to 10 points. Needless to say I didn't waste much time watching the game. I'm ready for football.

The current situation is that our marquis sports program has been driven into an abyss and will take years to climb out. Wellman and Bzzz has to go so we can start rebuilding our reputation and credibility. It starts at the top. Dr. Hatch needs to do his job and push Wellman into retirement.

If you can't appreciate historical competitiveness, then you have a sorry life and are a part of the win at all costs lunatic fringe. Historical competitiveness, love it or leave.

Wellman is not going to be forced out. Any chance of that went away with the Clawson hire. Bz will be fired/asked to resign at the end of the season. Hopefully his replacement is a good one.

Is the clawson hire good enough to save Wellmans job? Yes or no.

Yes, whatever pressure might have been on him is gone now. All he has to do is replace Bz at the end of the season with a reasonably good hire and he gets to retire on his terms in a few years.

Ain't no way Hatch and the BOT fire Wellman, especially considering his NCAA duties. That doesn't mean Wellman won't fire Buzzdick after the season, and it'll be interesting to see what it takes for Wellman to admit his mistake and fire Buzzdick. I figure we'll have a slight winning record with 16-17 Ws (with a road win or 2 against a weak sister or 2). That might be enough "progress" for Wellman not to have to admit his mistake and extend Buzzdick.

"That might be enough "progress" for Wellman not to have to admit his mistake and extend Buzzdick. "...but not enough to bring the fan base back.

If you want apathy and depression just check out Chris Mack's record compared to Bz.

??? I think Clawson has impressed as much as possible thus far, but suggesting that simply hiring him is enough? kind of demonstrates how fickle us message board fans can be, no? Clawson is 0-0..."whatever pressure might have been" on Wellman might be temporarily relaxed, but "gone now" seems like a stretch to me.

I still have this really sinking feeling that [Redacted] is going to be extended after we find a way to scratch out 18 wins (mostly against the bottom of a really sketchy ACC). Someone talk me off the ledge.

This team is going to have a difficult time winning against decent teams. A formula will be established on how to beat this team -- shut down Codi. I seriously doubt they win 8 more games…I'd say 4 is about right for this crew.

People keep saying that ACC is bad..but it's the best it's been since [Redacted] has been our coach.

Our best win per Kenpom so far has been Richmond (by a huge margin). We only have 6 more games against opponents with a lower rank than Richmond, and I think everyone knows we got lucky to beat them. Kenpom only has us favored in four of those (though it predicts a 7-11 conference record).

I think it's highly improbable we go 8-10. I think Kenpom is optimistic on us..our historical (and historic) ineptitude on the road isn't baked into our ratings because we have only had one game on the road. I would not the least be surprised to see [Redacted] get his 7th straight losing season, even though we're currently 2 games ahead of where I thought we'd be at this point (kudos to [Redacted] for not dropping a completely random game..that's a first, although arguably we didn't do that last year depending on what you think about Nebraska).

I never believed Wellman was under that much pressure from the powers that be in the first place.
