Our Next BB Coach or #MannUp + other coach talk

Nope, he had already been national runner-up.

Wellman was too miserly.

Kind of -- the coaching search was going on as Butler was making their first Final Four run.

Like buckets is saying, not ideal timing with Butler doing that that year -- if they lose earlier maybe Stevens isn't as convinced he can do big things at Butler and is more likely to bolt

Thanks. You've got to screw up bad to get fired after making 3 straight Final Fours at any program. That's why we should be wary of Howland.

Here's what happened with Stevens. People on the old board wanted to fire Dino and go after Stevens before he made his tourney run. It was a dead split with those who were gung ho about him and those who thought he hadn't done enough. He squeaked by some early games but if he had lost one of those 1 or 2 point games in the early rounds and Wellman had hired him people were ready to bitch.

well we do know for sure that Stevens probably would have jumped to the NBA at some point

Dino was fired April 8. The Final Four ended April 5. He had reached the Final Four March 27.

Yeah, because he's an awesome coach and would have turned heads because of the awesome things he did for Wake. It would be like getting upset at a player coming to Wake and leading us to the FF and then leaving early to go pro.

We don't know that. It's one thing to go from Butler to the NBA and another from the ACC. Also he was very wise to leave when he did. Butler was just entering a good conference that he wouldn't dominate.

Alternate history. A butterfly flaps its wings in China and Brad Stevens loses one of these two games:

Wellman hires him to the chagrin of BSF and others who wanted National Champion Tubby Smith.

BREAKING --- South Florida has fired Stan Heath, source tells @CBSSports. Story coming.

Wake, Rice, Auburn, South Florida open.
Alabama, Depaul, BC not open.
Waiting: WSU, VT, Mississippi, Stanford.

FYC: That was the 2nd run. The first run they were a 5 seed.

FYC, people were enamored with Brad Stevens before he made the Final Four.

Interesting news about Stan Heath. USF has done what we've wanted to do. In January, the AD announced he would retire next June. USF announced there would be a search for a new AD. They hired an assistant AD from UCLA this week. He fired the basketball coach today.

That is my point, Ph. There was a large contingent that wanted him and a large contingent that said "he hadn't done enough". It was an ongoing debate as he went through the tourney in 2010 until he reached the FF and all the naysayers relented.

If he had lost that game to Murray State it wouldn't make him any less of a coach, but half the board would have not liked the hire. Also, Wellman had been targeting him before that run.

I'll take your word for it. Perhaps I dismissed the people who weren't impressed with Stevens. What was your handle on the old boards?

Come on brah, don't jinx us.

Touche, I think we've all heard different stories about Wellman's pursuit of Stevens.

one of my BOIS (riazkj4 -- he made like 10 posts on the old boards but never made it over here i don't think) is super connected with UD. like half his family played on the bball team, his uncle is on the BoT, they have stuff named after him there, etc. anyway, he told ME that they aren't super pumped about archie. he's known as a good talent evaluator and recruiter but unlike his brother is a poor tactician and doesn't do much in game. and they wouldn't be upset if he left. #SCOOOOOOP

YO APETIT on a scale of 1-10 how pumped are you to watch OUR BULLDOGS tonight?
