Our Next BB Coach or #MannUp + other coach talk

I would think 1.5 million at the absolute most. He's the kind of guy you can get with a relatively small amount of guaranteed money then load up with performance bonuses.

Yeah, I think that's about the right range for White. He's definitely the guy I want the most for what we're apparently willing to spend.

I agree with the White talk. Let's get this guy (if not Marshall).

Turner isn't terrible, but I just feel like if we're going to go the "younger, late 30s/early 40s coach from a low or mid-major with 5 years or less head coaching experience" route, there are better candidates than him.

White seems like a good fit. Young, relatively successful thus far, fairly cheap. Maybe Wellman has been working behind the scenes through his dad.

I think Masiello's recruiting upside is a little higher than White's, but I'd be ecstatic if White came here obviously.

Announcers saying the "no call could take Dayton out of the NCAA tournament" ouch

Huh? How have you been excited about the gettable names? The only names that would excite me are Marshall, Smart and Krystkowiak. Short of that, I'd be pleased with White and alright with Lonergan and maybe Masiello. And I don't remotely like the names Amaker, Howland, Mooney, Paulsen, Reed, Turner and their ilk, and now I'm souring on Miller (not that I was high on him to begin with). We've already been told that his Premiership won't be spending a lot of $$ to right our flagship program. I'm fully prepared for what appears to be an impending mediocre hire and the resulting irrelevancy that will ensue. How can you like so many of those other names?

I have found things to like about Lonergan, Amaker, White, Italian Guy and Howland. Don't really think we'll be hiring Mooney, Paulsen or Reed, and thus I don't consider them "likely." Even Reed though has cool pics with his kids milking cows and dressing up for Halloween and stuff which makes me think he is normal and not a crazy person like Bz.

Guess I need to dive down the rabbit hole and find reasons to like Russell Turner. He's the one likely guy of all the names that I just haven't been able to get remotely excited about. I know he's not bad, he is just so very bland.

I don't want Turner, but here's the best case I can come up with him:

1. Foxy Doctor wife who went to wake

2. he can dunk

3. he recruited a 4-star to UC-I

4. UC-I is a terrible basketball school, and they are up to 82 in kenpom despite being super young (297th in experience). they could be a top 50 team the next 2 years which is crazy for a program like UC-I.

Being #1 in effective height helps mask a lot of problems. He'd have to recruit and develop several 4* and 5* big men here to get away with his other statistical issues.

I'm gonna try to get excited about Turner because my optimism has worn off and there's no chance we'd go with Miller, White, Italian over Turner. He's going to be our coach unless our top targets turn us down.

Wake 94-00: Never missed a postseason tournament. Went to an Elite Eight. Coached Duncan.
Stanford 00-04: Won an NCAA tournament game every year under Montgomery. Went to an Elite Eight. Followed Mike Montgomery to the Warriors.
GS 04-10: Montgomery did not work out with the Warriors. Turner stays on under Don Nelson. Among his many duties with Golden State, Turner assists with game planning, analyzes opponent personnel tendencies, and works closely with players on individual skill development. Does the Summer League program and international stuff as well. Nelson resigns in 2010, Turner leaves.
UC-I 10-14: As the head coach at UC Irvine, Turner led the Anteaters to the second round of the 2013 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, the program’s first postseason win since 2002. UC Irvine also reached the Big West Conference Finals and won the third most single-season games in UC Irvine history with 21 in the 2012-13 season.

now Tom Crean knows how to build a program back from a dumpster fire
