Archie Miller

Arizona alum here wanting to chime in on Archie. Whichever ACC program that hires Archie, and it will happen eventually, is getting a personable, relentless recruiter who can also teach at a high level. Arizona did not have the same nepotism rules as Xavier, which allowed Sean to hire Archie from Thad. I too remember him as that "little twerp" from NCSU, but I heard nothing but positives during his two year stay at Arizona. The players absolutely love him and were crushed but also happy for Archie when he took the Dayton job. I know Derrick Williams credits Archie, and along with Sol Hill, still stay in close contact with him.

Archie is a fantastic recruiter, in his one year at Arizona State, he set up the Scott Pera/James Harden package deal that saved Herb's job. AM was instrumental in the recruitment of Derrick Williams (after his release from USC, it was down to Arizona/Memphis) and Nick Johnson. Sean and Archie run the same pack line defense and "passing game" offensive sets. The pack line defense, I'm sure you are familiar with, runs out at three point shooters while helping to cut off driving lanes. The one weakness is against players with mid-range games but that is considered the least efficient method of scoring.

Good info. I'd be fine with Archie.

Archie is going to slay it recruiting when he gets his big job, obviously.

I understand this is only year 2 of Dayton's roster rebuild so they aren't that great just yet. But he is going to be an elite national head coach for someone. It would be so money to scoop him.

I've come to the conclusion that if it's not a well-known name for the casual fan, it's gotta be Archie. His trajectory is crystal clear.

And he was at State for what, seven or eight years? He and his hot wife should be willing to stay for a while.

RW and his pilot already know the way to Ohio.

I actually like Miller over most other names. Swing big but Archie would be solid IMO.

I like Archie, and I'd be more than happy with him as our coach - if we swing and miss on Shaka.

No reason for optimism with Shaka. Just have low expectations so then you're not disappointed. And if somehow RW pulls lightning out of his ass, then you are overwhelmed with joy. Basically my approach to Wake athletics the last 15 years and it has served my blood pressure well.

Very good info! Appreciate the post!

I bet we end up with this guy.

By the way, wouldn't be the first famous Archie @ MSD, since Carroll O'Connor spent a short time here.

I'm starting to come around on Archie. He may be the best among the 2nd tier candidates. My one worry is if he's successful here, will he jump to NC State if "mama calls"? I know there's some thought that the conference wouldn't allow this, but m skeptical.

He can't go straight to State from WF anyway. I think State fans are hoping we don't take him as they'd like to hire him next go round.

Just to refresh, Archie is from the family that is the reason we have a "Miller" center?

Why not? Isn't this a widely held misconception? TOB went from BC to NC State.
