Chris Mack - Legitimate Target

" He was previously an assistant under Skip Prosser at Wake Forest from 2001 to 2004, at which point the now 44-year-old developed relationships with several influential boosters. Sources told CBSSports.com that some of those boosters are now endorsing the candidacy of Mack, who is widely viewed as one of the top young coaches in college basketball."

Sounds like some of our boosters are throwing his name out there. Not sure how legitimate of a target he is.

This is precisely worded to put pressure on another candidate. Wellman: "Hey, I want you (fill in candidate) as our coach but I'm getting pressure from boosters for other coaches."

Would I be giddy over Mack? No.

Is he a decent hire? Sure

3rd in the BE this year.

FWIW, there are worse candidates out there than Mack...Shaka would ignite the program right off the bat, but I could also see him jumping ship for a more high profile program down the road if he has continued success. Mack could be a legit long term fit....

Oh, so after he took us to a Final Four or two and sprinkled in some ACC/NCAA Championships. Awesome. Good luck to him at his future program!

How many basketball coaches in the history of Wake Forest have left Wake for a school which was perceived to be a "more high profile program?"

I haven't done the research but I would surmise the answer is zero.

I'd be really happy with this hire provided none of the top tier guys are available. Mack would do really well for us and he's a good dude.

BTW, wasn't Parrish the guy who broke the news on [Redacted] too?

Mack is weird in that I think he would be a MUCH more popular hire if he had NOT previously been an asst at Wake. He has had a lot more success/better resume than Archie Miller, to use one example.

Exactly. Add in the Xavier/state of Ohio ties too.

Even though I agree with your post 100%, I am 'meh' on Mack too....probably because of his past Wake connection. We need someone who was never worked with Wellman before.

Never mind, missed Tin Cup's earlier post regarding this -- I agree.

I heard that Chris Mack loves Dino and would never come to Wake because of the way Wellman and Hatch treated Dino.

yeah, seriously. this is what surprises me the most. i thought for sure that the Xavier pipeline died the moment that we fired Dino.

Chris Mack only has a better resume than Archie Miller if you are a very first level thinker.

LOL at Mack having a better resume than Archie.

Is that a TATTOO on Mack's right leg? No way he is getting the gig now.

Of course Chris Mack is a target for Wake. But would he be interested? Has a better job.

Again disagree, but the last 4 years have really clouded perceptions. X board saying that Kelsey would be next in line to replace Mack - a lot of fascinating storylines here

The Skip Prosser Classic would then be Mack vs Kelsey.
