A safe pick is almost required in this case. Things are extremely dire at this point. Staring down a decade of futility in basketball, which again is the single most important thing to Wake Forest, is not where we want to be. We had a chance to take a risk after Dino and it blew up in our face. Risk is off the table now.

I understand both these points, but I was saying Manning over Mack, and not over Shaka, Marshall, Howland, or Archie.
I'm not even sure Mack would consistently get us to the Sweet 16 level. Maybe once every handful of years? His track record at Xavier is "fine." I just think Manning's "high reward" potential is large enough to off-set the safeness of a boring pick like Mack.
I'd rather gamble and bring in Manning then take a "safe" pick on Mack that would probably have us max out in the Sweet 16. Now, winning a couple games in the tournament would be fun... but winning 4 would be even more fun.
it can't get much worse
Danny Manning would be an absolutely atrocious hire in nearly every imaginable aspect.
Uh oh, USF is down to their final two candidates, we better start moving fast! Coaching carousel goes round and round...
Actually, it can. It can always get worse. If anything that's the one lesson you should have learned in the [Redacted] era.
?Why is Manning under the floor boards. Why would he be an atrocious hire?
He has NC ties
He was an All-American in college
He was a long time NBA player
He has coached as an assistant with some of the best coaches in the country
He is a great big man coach
He wants to play sound defense that drives a transition offense (i.e. he likes to run and that's fun to watch)
People who have worked with him think he is a great person and coach
Why? I'd much rather have him than Mack. Mack came across as totally classless in the Holloway incident with Cincy a few years ago (Cronin came across way better). Manning has done a good job with Tulsa in a very short period and was reportedly a good recruiting assistant at KU before that. He may be riskier than Mack, but his ceiling is much higher.
I just read the their current target is Eric Musselman?
more of a feminist* thing
