Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

Yes because the best way to solve this issue is to hurt the university by not contributing to one of its most important fundraising campaigns ever. You sound like one of the stratt idiots.

Every fundraising effort every year is "one of the most important ever".

Friends giving me shit for hire. Made the decision to immediately back him, spew off #1 draft pick and championship as asst under Self bs, but looks like I'm ready to at least hope for the best.

It's been a while since I've cheered 100% for Wake basketball without any hesitation but I'm back and willing. Hope he turns out to be something special.

Didn't rj tell us it would classless to not have a meeting with his players? Wonder what he thinks about a conference call?

There's no doubt that the way the Manning camp has handled this ordeal has been lacking in class. But, I guess he's our classless jerk now.

Is this a real post? They are trying to raise a billion dollars. It's the most important capital campaign in the university's history. I'm sorry if you're too much of a moron to understand that.

They just announced the hire on 106.7 The Fan here and DC. The announcer had a surprised (in a good way) inflection in his voice when he said it. I know we view this processes as a cluster (rightful so) but this will be viewed well nationally.

Praying that Manning brings in a serious X's and O's assistant. If he keeps more than one of the current assistants........ugh

I could give a shit who he hires as assistants. He hasn't worked in the eastern half of the country as a coach, well, ever. If he keeps one or more because he thinks it will help him recruit better, more power to him. The important thing as that if he does it, it needs to be his call.

Um, really, it's not hard for you to understand how a coach making less than $500,000 would turn down a job making $1,000,000+? I mean White has a more impressive resume than Manning, and Manning is apparently worth $2 million. So you really don't think we could've got White, cause with the money Wake is offering Manning I'm sure a deal could've been reached.

It's been stated ad nauseum, but he said he didn't think he was ready. A couple years of a really nice salary isn't worth fucking youir career because you made the big jump before you're ready. I don't see how this is so difficult for you to understand.

This. Everyone I have spoken to who knows basketball thinks it's a pretty damn good hire. I'm disappointed, but I am far from being pissed off like I was when [ ] was hired and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do here.

Wellman is the direct and proximate cause of all of this. The fan response was reasonably predictable based on the results. Please stop it with "it's the fans fault."

But therein lies the problem. The response was happening even before a single result. And it appears to be happening here. Yet somehow folks think that doesn't have an affect on things.

Wow, this thread is no longer tacked.

Tulsa hired Manning on April 4, 2012. i wonder if he waited until today to resign because of his contract and buyout clause. It may have saved him a few dollars to wait until April 4th to resign.

They aren't.

They are.

White has an extra year and a lot more wins at a worse program. Archie was the top recruiter for an elite program and also has an extra year and more wins at a similar program in a much tougher conference.

That's because before a single result at Wake, Buzz had three straight losing seasons at Colorado. People are getting behind Manning, even if they are disappointed we didn't land someone bigger. It's nothing like Buzz. Don't confuse spur of the moment posts with the general attitude of the fan base. Ofcrouse the fan base is pissed when we were told we were aiming high and ended up with Manning, but folks are still more than willing to give him a chance, unlike the Bzzaster.

The Eagles traded up in 2010 and drafted Brandon Graham when everyone in the fanbase was screaming for Earl Thomas. Sometimes the fans are right from day 1. People were right to be skeptical about [Redacted] but they would've been fully on board if he proved them wrong. He didn't.

However, I disagree that most aren't on board now. Some aren't, but the reaction isn't the same (nor should it have been) to Bz's hire. Most people who didn't want Manning are ready to support him anyway. There's nothing wrong with wanting a different result but coming together at this point to support him now. There are at least reasons to be optimistic with Manning that weren't there with Bz.

Nice fuck-up, Wellman. Something that you are so incredibly adept at doing.
