Best College Basketball Game You Attended

I think the loudest Joel I can remember was the John Buck dunk.

UNC Game at home 2/27/96 - WFU 84 - UNC 60 - I sat second row underneath the basket and watched us destroy them. Rusty Larue's final home game as a senior IIRC - he dunked on an alley oop from Rutland just before getting subbed out. I don't think I've ever heard LJVM louder.

Incredibly fun Senior Night!! That was such an electric atmosphere as well as the students were extra jazzed up with some early spring weather. I tailgated quite a while before that one.

And I'm still not sure, but shouldn't have T-Rut's over the backboard buzzer beater have counted? I know that was legal in the NBA (Larry Bird), but now I can't remember if it counted or not. Or if it did cuz the refs didn't know what to do. But the ball never touched anything but net!

1995 ACC Championship Game....and whole tournament. Was working in the Wake Sports Information Department and we were the host school for the tourney in Greensboro. Sat at the scorers table as a spotter for the greatest performance over a weekend by any ACC basketball player ever. We were supposed to not show any rooting interest even though we were Wake students... I can still here myself yelling so the person next to me could hear it and enter it..."Childress 3, 24 ft". followed not long after by "Another F-ing Childress 3 25 ft.' John Justus didn't get too pissed at us for showing some excitement that weekend...

Best Games I've seen in person:

96 ACC championship game
2OT Duke game in 03
09 Duke game

Favorite Games I've seen in person:

93 UNC game: one of the 1st games I remember going to
Dec. 2000 Kansas game: they were top 5 and we beat them by 30
Dec. 2005 Wisconsin Game: my freshman year before that season collapsed

For me, Live...

No. 4 Wake vs. No. 3 UNC, January 2005.... Chris Paul vs. Raymond Felton. At the end of the game, both guys just quit passing and went back and forth, up and down the court. Massive trash talking with UNC fans the entire game.

I think they counted it if I remember correctly. Was that also the game that two dudes from the student section ran out onto the court during a timeout and did somersaults across the court with the Fun Police in hot pursuit, and then ran up the steps on the other side and just sat down into two empty seats like nothing happened, and nobody in the stands ratted them out? For some reason I think that was that same game because everyone was so happy about the ass-kicking we were giving the Heels.

You may very well be right about that, but I may have missed that somehow. Either I am too old to remember or I was up at the concession stand or bathroom. That whole night was a blur but I'll never forget Rusty's dunk and the steal and OTB heave at the buzzer by Tony. My buddy went to the same HS and played BB on the team with Rusty; he used to get to guard him (fruitless) in practice so we were going extra bat-shit crazy when he actually got up to dunk!! Too awesome.

This and UNC '09 were excellent (and quite similar) from a quality of game standpoint. '03 Duke 2 OT just gets the nod for me due to the drama.

J Gray hitting threes with his mask, so awesome

1993 against UNC in the Joel. Rodney unleashes a 360. Randolph blows a tight game wide open with 6 straight 3's early in the 2nd half. I literally thought the roof would be raised. Wake destroys the eventual NCAA champs 88-62

I was at this game, was a great one. I would put the state 4 o.t game right there, along with Wake vs. Virginia Tech . Do not remember the year but wake had Danny Young,Delaney,Kenny Green, and I think Teachy. V.T had Dell Curry.

January 22, 1975 at the old Memorial Coliseum, Wake Forest 122 Duke 109, before 3 pointers and the shot clock.

Yup, and after those 2 victories over UNC, UNC then went onto win the National Championship...... ugh..

The December 2003 ACC opener at the Dean Dome. That's the game I remember thinking, "Oh my God, CP3 is a superstar."

Almost forgot 2/25/81 73-66 OT win over Ralph Sampson and Virginia. Frank Johnson scored 22 in his final home game. Post-game, the quad got an epic rolling and Johnson was serenaded with chants of "Hollywood! Hollywood!"

If I heard correctly, that was Rusty's one and only dunk in his collegiate career. What a great way to go out - on senior night, against Carolina, in his last play, in a blowout. #Legend

UNC v. Wake January 2005, UNC v. Wake January 2009 are the two best Wake games I have ever attended.

The best game was the 2001 ACC Tournament game between Duke and Maryland. Duke won 84-82, but watching it with 70,000 in the GA Dome was just insane.

Except that game was the year before Chris Paul, right?

pretty sure when outsiders see that Wake finished 1st in the ACC Regular season in 2003 they automatically assume CP3 was the star on that team.

nope.it was another Winston product in Josh Howard. :)

One that stands out for me, now being a South Carolina resident, is the 1983 NIT game vs South Carolina at the Greensboro Coliseum. I was 12 years old, and it was a big deal to go to a Thursday night game. Wake won the game, but went on to lose to Fresno State. The thing that stands out the most is some WF fan was holding up a sign that read 'Our Deacs Are Bigger Than Your Cocks' I've been waiting over 30 years for WF to play SC again so that I can re-make that sign and wave it proudly.

1991 home vs. Duke

6'8" Anthony Tucker started at pg

Stripped ball twice from Duke's pg....full court reverse.

We started screaming "I'm a bad man" from Muhamid Ali commercial and he gave us a Grinch like wink as he ran back down the court.

At the end the whole Joel was chanting "F____" Carolina....we played and beat them the following week.
