Official Spring Football 2014 Thread (Spring Game Saturday at 2:00)

People forget Grobe used a 4-2-5 a few times. When Grobe first got here, Caron Bracy was a classic example of a safety/LB hybrid.

That was a 3-3-5.

According to a couple of posters on the Scout board, the practice tomorrow (4/12) afternoon will begin at 1:30 at BB&T Field and is open to the public

Random thoughts from scrimmage:

Much more structure than last years scrimmages.

Clawson totally involved.

Defense is dominating a weak looking offense.

Sousa looks better than Cameron. I didn't see any difference in passing skills and Sousa could keep plays alive with his legs.

Thanks. I think offense will benefit more from the incoming true freshman than the defense.

What was the structure of the scrimmage?

Think about that...I don't doubt you at all, Ph, but that is a telling comment.

Disagree. Sousa's first series looked good. His second series I thought his throwing motion looked terrible and he struggled. Cameron looks like a better passer to me, but the offense was unable to make any plays with him at the helm. Orville looked fast in drills, but never got free in the scrimmage.

Overall we looked pretty meh. Not a lot of depth on the O-line. Looked like spring enrollee Luedeke was the back-up center and spring enrollee Anderson was one of the back-up guards. D-line looked under-sized and Tylor Harris did not appear to be playing with the first team.

Are the upper classmen buying in or are they going through the motions?

It is weird seeing football scrimmage quotes from somebody besides Grobe.

It takes MUCH longer for an offense to gel. Defense can be aggressive & just get to the ball. Offense requires timing, continuity, etc & it usually takes time for those things to come together. Not surprising to hear that the defense looked better.

I agree. Have the upperclassmen, on offense, improved any since they first walked on campus? Our OL still can't block, it seems. Are the TE's doing anything or is it LOBOcide all over again.

Defense is terribad too. Just prepare for a rough season

I'm afraid that our poor recruiting, especially at key positions, in the later Grobe years will take a lot of time to rectify. Vince Lombardi couldn't turn this team around in one season. Players are just too far away.
