So for those following along at home, my GF's friend that got divorced within six months of her wedding and got her boobs done last month was at the river with some friends this weekend.

Scuttlebutt is that she has been running through the hoodrats in that part of FL and we ran into her wearing this tiny ass American flag bikini proudly displaying her new bombs. She has now made this her profile picture on Facebook.

"hoodrat" typically refers to a female. Are you saying she's gone lesbian?

Never took her class, but got to know her fairly well from my internship with a charity in W-S. She was a phenomenal woman.

I had the challenge of moderating a panel discussion between her and Dr. Paul Wangai, former health minister of Kenya while I was in high school. The discussion was supposed to be about health and community in Africa and the United States. Instead, Dr. Angelou used every minute of her time reading from her books or quoting at length. She talked about herself and her life the entirety of the panel. I'm not 100% sure she knew why she was invited there. And at first, I think most people were either embarrassed (like me and the panel organizers) or confused (the audience). You started to expect it from a woman who wrote 7 autobiographies.

The shocking takeaway is that she could talk about herself, concretely or abstractly, for hours on end without being impolite or self-indulgent. She had more life experience than anyone I can remember. And no matter how many words she spoke, she still had the unbelievable economy of language. Her story needed to be told every day, and she was the only person to do it.

Norm Macdonald is like that.

from an outsiders perspective reading up on the Wikipedia this morning and the townie anecdote it does somewhat come off as someone who really wanted to be famous (obviously not trying to troll someone on their death)

Did anyone else watch Life is Beautiful in class in high school?

how cruel was that? a whole class of high-schoolers basically trying to conceal the fact they're bawling their eyes out... but damn, what a powerful movie.

someone gave us a fondue set for our wedding. ain't used it.

I've used ours once. Too much work for little payoff.

Hmm, I could just program it to do the replacement for "could/would of" on the boards like I did for [Redacted]..

[Brasky was here]

Am I the only one who spends time thinking about how fucking great READING RAINBOW was as a show?

NO.
I was just thinking about this yesterday, actually.

Weird, I just saw on my newsfeed that a comeback is in the works.

Can't figure out how to post a link from my phone, but Levar Burton had started a kickstarter to bring it back.

PBS has always basically worked on a crowdfunding model. Glad to see RR get a start again. Awesome show.

Well, this is joyous news.

3 most influential TV shows in my lifetime: Reading Rainbow, Sesame Street, and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood

Yep. Alll about some Reading Rainbow. I remember it made me want to go to the library, and then I would do book reviews like the kids on the show for my little broski.

My sisters and I used to draft countries off our world map and write mini-reports on the history and culture of the place to be presented to each other.

I think we grew tired after the first week and just went outside to play kickball or roller hockey.

I have to say, a fun aspect of being a parents is re-living stuff like that from your childhood. Obviously we're very early since the Bug is only not quite one, but just remembering nursery rhymes, sing a long songs, and books has been very nostalgic.

I was tearing up the other day reading Corduroy! All he wanted was a friend to take him home.
