The OFFICIAL 2014 Mother's Basement MLB Season Thread - #dynasty vs. #destiny

Is he still struggling in the field? If you could combine his bat with Espinosa's bat you would have the perfect 2nd baseman.

After his game in Boston, it's been decent. Had two or three plays last night that stole some hits.

Sawx are 0-2 since Stephen Drew came back. Should probs drop him.

Workman gets 6 games and Price gets thippy. such BS

That really is nonsense. And Price’s claim that he gained respect from people by intentionally hitting a guy was pretty obnoxious.

In Phillies news, I can’t believe Ryne Sandberg’s closed-door meeting and Larry Bowa’s public rant didn’t cause the team to hit better last night. (When Ruben is mercifully relieved of his duties, I hope ownership cleans house completely.)

Jon Singleton's first career hit was a home run last night

Solid first career bat flip too. (Loved his family's reaction at the end.)

His family was going NUTS, which was funny. Poor kid did have two errors last night, which sucks. I didn't see the second one, but on the first he just had his skirt blown up by a routine ground ball. Not good, especially for a guy who already has a suspect defensive reputation (unlike Springer, who has a great defensive reputation, and still made several errors in his first few weeks in RF--that was weird).

Anyway, Singleton go boom:

Also, JASON LANE, people. I'm so happy for that dude. Former elite power Astros prospect who couldn't make enough contact in the league. He's set about reinventing himself as a pitcher. Last year, I'm pretty sure he was in indie league ball with the Sugarland Skeeters. Signs a minor league contract with the Padres this year, gets called up yesterday, and pitches 3.1 perfect innings last night. He's 37 years old. Pretty cool.

Awesome. thanks for posting. Astros could be damn good in a few years.

The system is really light on bats after Singleton, Springer, and Correa. And of those three, Correa is the only one that projects to hit for serious power and average.

On the flip side, the Astros are bubbling over with promising arms at every level of the system, and the MLB club has pitched so well for about a month now that it's not clear where all of the arms will fit.

you forgot about jose altuve

Sorry, should have clarified that I'm talking specifically about prospects/future bats. Altuve/Fowler/Dominguez/Castro all look serviceable or better going forward, but the current lineup + Springer/Singleton/Correa (in 2015) still looks like a weak offensive unit.

There's a few teams in the Astros division who aren't going away any time soon.

It's basically Oakland that's built for the future, no? Seattle maybe?

Texas strikes me as a team perpetually in win now mode.

i mean texas has a lot of young talent. they're jsut getting murdered by injuries. they still had a top 10 system going in to the year.

Yeah, Texas still has a ton of talent from a couple years of blowing their load on international bonuses.

The nice thing for the Astros is they should still have room to jack up their payroll, especially once the TV deal gets restructured and bought out by someone else.

I love Jorge Alfaro. Profar is known (and should produce when he comes off the DL) and they have Sardinas at short coming up. Gallo has tons of power, just needs to keep improving K/BB and K%- but he's making progress. They have arms too. And with $Texas to fund payroll, they should be set.
