World Cup Knockout Rounds Thread (USMNT THREAD!) (nwt)

Dissapointed that the U.S. lost, and as a casual soccer follower I've really enjoyed their run.
But damn I'm ready to get back to some PTI.

This is just a stupid post. There are more than enough people playing soccer in the US to be good. It is just the hardest sport to be really good at. Even brazil has looked like crap in this tourney according to many people.

We are good, that's the point. We were the best in our Federation, and we've basically been a top 16 team for the last decade, which is pretty amazing considering we didn't qualify for the World Cup for 40 freaking years. We're not top 8. For the most part, countries that are top 8 have national systems that prepare soccer players from grade school.

Big, strong and fast. Belgium was that. Four years ago, it was ticky tack from little guys - and I'm not criticizing - that was beautiful soccer, and Xavi has been 1 of my favorite players over the last decade. Ghana and Algeria were big, strong and fast and gave ze Germans fits. Seems like size, speed and long balls have become a theme in this WC, and teams like Spain, Portugal and Italy are already home. Is this a trend, or am I just a noob who is missing something? Or both?

Belgium, 11 million people. Of that maybe 1 million play soccer? How many people have been involved with soccer in the US- 30 million? No way we shouldn't have more talent than little Belgium. We're America dammit! US soccer is underperforming big time. And Belgium will lose their next match.

By that metric, China and India should be the best at everything! Don't be intentionally stupid.

Hopeful for the future if it has players like Green, DeAndre, Brooks, etc

UGH... well it was a good effort. wish we'd played with our hair on fire before the belgium goal.

2004 US Olympic Basketball team says hi. We finished 4th in a group of 6 including losses to Puerto Rico by 19, Lithuania, and Argentina.

The US is in the Top 8 at a ton of sports we don't care about. Watch the Olympics.

Don't be stupid. Comparing the international competitiveness of smaller individual sports to fucking Soccer is beyond dumb.

Really bugs me that Beckerman didn't get on the field today after playing well in the group stage.

I don't understand why soccer fans aren't more pissed that when the US makes the knockout round, we are losing to the elites. We lose to Ghana and Belgium.

If they had been pouring the resources into soccer like the US has they probably would be.

So exactly how did the U.S.'s great "resources" affect the development of players like Yedlin or Wondo growing up, vs how soccer prodigies are groomed in soccer-centric countries?

Just shut up stop trying to act like a know-it-all on every goddamn thing.

How does IMG now stack up to the euro academies?

Belgium had most premier players of any team in WC other than Britain
