Bachmann approaches zenith of stupidity

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-s...-bachmanns-john-wayne-gaffe-still-hasnt-menti

Jeanne Moos reported on the 6PM installment of "The Situation Room":

JEANNE MOOS: Meanwhile, Bachmann started taking shots for a supposed gaffe. Speaking about her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa.

BACHMANN: It's like John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too.

MOOS: Blogs went for the kill, saying it wasn't John Wayne, the actor, who was from Waterloo, but John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer, who lived there. No sooner had the snarky headlines appeared -- "Bachmann Compares Self to Gay Rapist Clown Serial Killer" -- than Bachmann's campaign told "The Washington Times" that actor John Wayne's parents did live in Waterloo. ...

As NewsBusters reported last week, President Obama on Thursday said he had literally awarded a Medal of Honor to one Jared Monti, meaning in person while he was alive.

Unfortunately, Monti was bestowed this honor posthumously in 2009 having been killed in Afghanistan three years prior. Obama later apologized to the family for his misstatement.

Despite the seriousness of this gaffe, MSNBC and NBC have yet to report it. In fact, according to LexisNexis, through Sunday, not one television news network has.

It happens a lot with Republican campaigns, particularly those that don't use country music as a backdrop.

I don't know why artists get so wound up about such things. I mean, fuck off, it's not like people think Tom Petty is endorsing her. You aren't that important, Tom Petty. I suspect she could ignore the letter and pay ASCAP or somebody 5 cents every time she uses the song.

Something tells me that you would think differently if one of your songs was used in a Barney Frank campaign.

Michelle Bachmann also says "the shot heard round the world" was fired in NH. She also wants to invesitgate Members of Congress for being anti-American.

She also said John Quincy Adams was a Founding Father.

She also said the Founding Fathers "worked tirelessly to end slavery."

She isn't as big an idiot as Palin, but Bachmann is certainly in the superfecta.

OMG LIBERAL BIAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111!!!!!

If you don't see why the Bachman Gaffe is funny (and not a big deal) -- she mistakenly intimates that she has the spirit of a serial killing clown -- then you have a problem. Bachman's comment would be funny enough without the mistake for the simple fact that she is comparing herself to John Wayne.

Another politician makes an ass of themself on the air, the media in the bag for one party covers it, the other does not. I also noticed that the sun rose to the east of my house today...

My first priority as a Republican is to replace the occupant of the White House.

I don't see Bachmann or Palin doing it. They are not going to have the media covering up or downplaying their mistakes and gaffes.

There is a guy from Texas....

Oh, you must be talking about the guy that wants his state to secede from the US?

Nope. I'd be happy that I was getting free publicity and maybe a few more people to go buy the song on iTunes. The problem is that all these musicians are so full of themselves that they think the rank and file gives a shit about who they endorse or what they're singing about. American Girl is a good song and a good soundbyte for Bachmann's campaign (lest we think she is a Soviet girl). It doesn't constitute some endorsement by Tom Petty or some profound statement on the status quo of the average American girl. It's a fucking song. A pop song, a rock song, or whatever. That's all it is.

Perry is as big a phony as the current occupant of the White House. If you're rallying behind that douche, the only reason is because you view everybody else in the race as a douche or unelectable.

I guess you can think this if you are shallow, which I know you aren't. But to not tie the two together is a pretty big stretch, imho. We disagree. I know that if I took the time and energy to write a song, I would care how it is being used. True, some songwriters don't care as long as they get pub, dough and airtime. But some do. I would, evidently you wouldn't.

I wonder if Garbage would have a problem with Bachman using Stupid Girl? It would be much more appropriate.

Actually, I'd be curious about that too. Obviously, she wouldn't use it, but if she did, would Garbage really care to object to a song that portrays her as a stupid girl instead of an American girl? I doubt it.

But they aren't caring for those reasons. Maybe a few do (like Bruce with BITUSA), but face it, these songs are for the most part not revelatory or deep in any way. Their objections consist entirely of politics.
