Bachmann approaches zenith of stupidity

There was a court case about two years ago, maybe more, in which a US District Court judge not only made that exact ruling as a matter of law, but completely undressed intelligent design in the process. It was a really fun opinion to read. I don't think I have ever read that it went up on appeal so I assume the ID people accepted their whoopin' at least in that circuit.

Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District.

Seemingly lost in this is the fact proponents of Intelligent Design don't necessarily reject all of the theory of evolution, while creationists do. ID allows for evolution of species, but not governed by chance/natural law. Belief in ID doesn't even require belief in the Bible's God.

Bachmann may not be smart enough to know the difference.

That happens with a lot of campaigns. The fact that her people should have known this shows either they aren't very competent or don't care about the laws regarding such things.

It happens a lot with Republican campaigns, particularly those that don't use country music as a backdrop.

I don't know why artists get so wound up about such things. I mean, fuck off, it's not like people think Tom Petty is endorsing her. You aren't that important, Tom Petty. I suspect she could ignore the letter and pay ASCAP or somebody 5 cents every time she uses the song.

We're getting closer:

"When Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) officially kicked off her presidential campaign in her birthplace, Waterloo, Iowa, on Monday, saying she had the same “kind of spirit” as fellow Waterloo-ian John Wayne, except the actor was not born there — serial killer John Wayne Gacy Jr. was — some political bloggers called it a “minor gaffe.”"

I saw that Ailes made Chris Wallace apologize for telling Bachman some people think she's a flake and asking her if she was one. Didn't sufficiently toe the company line.

She did handle the question well to her credit.

These candidates should just get permission from whomever they need permission from before using these recordings. This happens every time a conservative uses a rock song -- you'd think they'd know the drill by now. I guarantee there are a ton of Bachman supporters out there who now think Petty's endorsed her. If I were Petty, I would want to put a stop to that immediately.

link?

I only said she was approaching it. Clearly she still has some wiggle room, and I suspect she won't disappoint us.

Really, Milhouse? Clearly I'm exaggerating (it doesn't happen every time), it just seems that way as others have noted. I expect more from you. But here are some links:

This curious episode — in which former Floria Governor Charlie Crist apologizes as part of a lawsuit settlement for a campaign ad that used a Talking Heads song without permission — is just the most extreme variant of a story which dates to at least 1984, when Bruce Springsteen complained that Ronald Reagan had misappropriated “Born in the USA.”

Byrne is just one of countless rockers — including Heart, Bon Jovi, Rush, Van Halen, Don Henley, Tom Petty and the Foo Fighters — who in recent years have told Republicans to quit using their music at campaign rallies and/or that they’ve distorted the message within their music. And The Boss is now on Chris Christie’s case, although over policy and not his music.

That said, I’m not familiar with another episode involving a televised ad and copyright issues, which was the basis of Bryne’s lawsuit–although the former Talking Heads frontman is clearly a liberal Democrat. (And, yes, technically speaking Crist, a former Republican, did run for Senate last year as an independent.)

Anyway, maybe safer to stick with Ted Nugent?

shoo, i was obviously just fucking around.

Sorry -- I know you like terrible rock music, Milhouse, and are very sensitive about it. For instance, you get very upset when someone mentions the obvious fact that every Social Distortion song sounds exactly the same. Didn't want to offend if there was some rock band out there that loved the fact that a Pub candidate used their song by making some exaggerated claim.
