Preseason Practice Reports

meh, bring back Mundy. He's straight killing it on the local HS girls basketball beat.

I actually like that 4 man front. I'm sure with Lewinson mixed in and Rodney in the middle.

From the spring practices/scrimmages I've seen I came away impressed with Lewinson. Think he is a strong, active player who happens to be a bit undersized. It seems like we never subbed last year on the D-line and I dont get why we don't rotate more. An undersized but fresh guy who can ball out for a couple series a game seems worthwhile.

I have also been impressed with Lewinson. Would think he will rotate in a bit this season.

Would like your take on the pace of practices so far and how the coaches interact with Clawson. Do you see a distinct pre-planned structure with alot getting done ?

There is very little wasted time. Everybody is doing something at all times. Even injured players are expected/being led in activities to rehab/be a part of the team.

Clawson roams around positionally and instructs wherever he is. The coaches usually defer to him when he is at any given area.

Everybody knows what they should be doing and the coaches aren't straying from that.

Needless to say, it's a vastly different environment from the last few years at practice

For those of us who didn't attend practices under Grobe, could you go into more detail about these differences?

We're counting on these differences to get the program on track.

A ton more energy. The head coach is actually coaching during practice. People doing the wrong things are immediately reprimanded and punished with push-ups of some sort. There are games within the practice between offense and defense to see who wins. The loser does up and downs. Players are way more intense and respond well to the upbeat energy.

A lot of stuff like that. On my phone, but can possibly expand more if you would like later today.

Thanks, 27. That is really good to know. Stuff like this is why we can't just look at last year and assume we'll suck.

So Clawson doesn't spend 20 minutes a practice bantering with journalists and guys on the wall? BOLD STRATEGY COTTON WE'LL SEE HOW IT PLAYS OUT.

I love the fact that Clawson hasn't done much media and we're not hearing tales of posters glad-handing him and different events. Means he's working.

Thanks guys !

Judging on only 2 pics I've seen, Claws has a whistle around his neck and a to-do list in hand. That's alot different from arms folded standing 30 yards away in a sweatshirt chatting with whoever.

Relative to the depth....I'm a little confused on the 4-2-5 defense. Isn't it really a 4-2-4 with a rover and DE's/OLB's sorta interchangeable ?

Yes. That's how I've seen it described. Not sure if the DE/OLB are interchangeable as much as former OLBs are playing on the DL due to lack of depth.

+1

I think we'll see some noticeable improvement from many players this year. A good indicator of what 9 months of 'new' mental and physical ialeoalyers I th
