Karl Hess

Haven't read this whole thread, just the beginning and the end. How come the other ref's aren't supporting him this time? I agree Hess is a dope, but I don't like to see people hung-out as being racist. He probably just made a bad joke. I'd rather see him fired solely for being the dope he is.

They likely are not b/c of racial implications.

Karl Hess should have been fired on the spot 17 years ago when he called Nikki Arinze's nutsack for a charge when he teabagged Shane Battier on perhaps the most spectacular dunk in Wake history. That hack has been working on borrowed time ever since.

Wow. Was that really 17 years ago? I remember that play like it was yesterday.

I remember that play it was January of 2000 was moving out of my rental house into our first house that we bought

recap of game (from a duke site)

The second half remained tight through the opening minutes, but the tide turned completely in Duke's favor with just under 12 minutes left to play. With the Blue Devils holding a 47-43 advantage, Niki Arinze pushed the ball up the right side of the court on a two-on-one fast break. Unfortunately for the Deacons, that "one" was Shane Battier.

Arinze took the ball straight to the hoop and flew through the air, dunking right on top of Battier. The crowd's cheers quickly turned to boos, however, as the referee signaled a charge on the Wake Forest high flier.

2. Interior defense. Battier was masterful, erasing layups and taking a charge on what would have been a monster dunk from Niki Arinze.

If there was another dunk earlier in his career with similar results, I don't recall it but I was definitely at the game in 2000.

Definitely 2000, and yes, it remains vivid. Was probably standing a few feet from you in the corner and he absolutely soared over Battier. I remember seeing him go up and thinking he had no chance to dunk it. Terrible call.

Drank quite a lot that night. Nothing Pittsnogle ever did came close to Duhon's career against Wake.
