2015 Basketball Coaching Carousel (Bo Ryan to retire in 2016)

Yeah...I said so in the coaching search thread. I know someone who would know and he told me Barns wanted that job. My friend told me at the time it was for two reasons. 1) he was not thrilled at Texas (that appears to be true) and 2) he wanted to move back "home" and coach in the ACC.

Thanks. Any idea who they are pursuing?

I had a "source" that said travis was transferring and buzz was getting canned 2 years ago

I've been saying for the last couple of years that Tejas needed to nudge Barnes out and get Marshall. Barnes is a better version of Dino - good recruiter and coaches defense well, but his offenses have only looked good when he had guys like Ford and Durant. I'd also suggest that his best years were when he had Haith sitting next to him. While Tejas is a football school, they can also sell out their hoops games, and they want them some final-4s. And they have more money than God. And the good thing about Marshall going there is that means he won't be going to UNC when Roy retires. And with Marshall there, I don't think you can pencil KU in every year as the conference champ. Self can't be happy with this move.

What are the chances Rick Barnes is our coach if this went down last year?

Glad it didn't happen. I'd rather have a younger guy on the ascent like Manning or Miller than an old guy on the descent like Barnes or Howland.

Texas top candidates are Gregg Marshall and Shaka Smart -- and both have heavy interest in the opening, sources told ESPN.

we would be better off if those two moved on before unc and duke open up. marshall to texas. make this happen.

Shaka told us he couldn't stand leaving his kids at VCU. We shall see.

Fixed for command c command v capabilities.

They won't have heavy interest in every opening. If so they'd be long gone from those posts by now

Shaka Dumb if he doesn't jump all over a Texas offer.

I couldnt agree more. I think VCU has reached their ceiling. Yes they will compete for the conference title every year and reach the dance, but another final four run is a stretch. I've also heard he is very interested in the 'Bama, job but that would be stupid to follow in your predecessors path IMO.

I believe it. They are learning that if they don't take the money and run now to a power 5, they could end up like Jim Grobe, wishing they had taken the opening when they had the chance.

Nah. They're both exceptional coaches who can win anywhere. I don't think they're worried about that. Plus there is tons of evidence you can build a mid major program into a high-level winner.

At some point though money talks as well as the resources to bring in high-level talent at a Texas versus a Wichita or VCU

Yeah, we certainly wouldn't want a guy willing to stand up to kaye's bs.

Is Texas a good job? Really, 'nobody' want's to spend a few years in Austin. Such a hard sell.
