2015 Basketball Coaching Carousel (Bo Ryan to retire in 2016)

So, does Anthony Grant go back to VCU?

Got to think so. It makes too much sense. Shaka continued to build what Grant built and Grant would be a good fit to run it.

Otherwise I'm not sure what the coaching market looks like for a strong mid-major other than going after a standout low major who hasn't gotten a big break yet like Moten. Seems like those type of mid major jobs stay in the family.

I hope Shaka leaves. I can't explain why, but the VCU fans just really annoy me.

No explanation is necessary. It's a perfectly natural reaction. I would go into further detail, but that would violate my prohibition against extensive posts.

That Final Four whirlwind blew a whole lot of dumb out of the trees.

and Shaka in Austin is much more preferable to Shaka in Chapel Hill or Durham

True. But that wasn't going to happen in the short term anyway. Still think it is very plausible as his next step though when Roy or K are done if he continues success.

More than anything else, this. I've always liked UT, so I'm happy for them. Now we'll see if UT can become a better program than KU. Sad for VCU, but Shaka has raised their profile to the point where they'll get a good coach - either Grant or Hurley would be fine. But more than anything else, Shaka won't be the next UNC coach. So good for us.

As for job comparisons, Tejas is certainly better than Wake, especially after Chairman Ron trashed our program with Buzzdick. And I'd argue Tejas is better than UCLA because of $$ and less pressure. Tejas has unlimited resources and $$ and only moderately high expectations. UCLA can't afford to be as competitive with their $$ limitations, and their fan base has surreal expectations.

As far as Texas being better than Wake, tell that to ISH SMITH

The only basis on which UCLA is a better job than Texas is tradition, and UCLA hasn't won a title in 20 years and hasn't been the dominant program in the country in 40 years. Current recruits were not alive when UCLA won in 1995 and many of their parents weren't alive when UCLA was dominant in the 60s and 70s. Texas is equal or better in virtually every respect: resources, facilities, size of fanbase, national exposure, recent success, NBA alums, competition in natural recruiting territory, quality of life for coach, cost of living, conference.

There is also no income tax in Texass, so $3million a year in TX is a lot more than in a lot of other states...Another similarity to Donovan in FL, btw.

Plus there's always a possibility that brasky could be your Uber driver in Austin

As to the carousel, Lil Stith is transferring from UVA. Presumably to ODU - I think Jones recently hired Bryant. Hope it works out for him there - good move for him if he wants p-t because he wasn't going to get it here. He wasn't an ACC level talent, and I'm guessing his recruiting ranking was significantly influenced by his last name.

I see a lot of Stan Heath in Shaka. Except Stan Health actually led a team to first place in their conference once.
