Official thread about the movie you just saw

So yeah, I've watched all three today. The second and third ones were pretty bad. And having seen the trailer for the new one, I suspect it'll also be bad.

But the first one...really, really good, by today's standards even.

Before I die, yet way low on the "bucket list," I want to sit down with you in front of a 75" flat screen with an amazing bottle of bourbon and watch TRL.

It amazes me that someone as smart as you would (presumably) rank that masterpiece (best movie of the 90's?) below Adam Sandler's worst.

TRL was a colossal bore, man. All those great actors who were dying to be in an ensemble piece with Malick simply because the guy hadn't made a film in 20 years. Everybody thought, "Oooh, this is going to be awesome. Artistry applied to WW2." Snore. It was a visual feast of a film. I will give you that. But it was also a yawner. I don't remember a damn thing about it except I think he died at the end. Maybe that didn't even happen. I was half in the bag by then. Pretty visuals only go so far unless you are high as a kite or tripping balls, which clearly you were.

This is pretty spot on.

Thin Red Line may be the last time I rode with someone else to the movie theater. I should have just walked out and stood in the parking lot. It would have been more interesting.

But guys, it's a masterpiece and might even be the best film of the 90's.

Just saw Fury Road. Fantastic although I could have done without the guitar guy. Charlize Theron might be the hottest shaved head girl ever.

The Doof Warrior (yup, he has a name, I'm slightly obsessed with this movie) is a lot cooler when you learn that the flame throwing guitar and wall of amps were all real he actually was playing while driving around the desert on the back of a truck.

Nope. That is impressive, but it doesn't make him cooler. Any other interesting tidbits your obsession has found?

I was going to go see Mad Max last night but the theater's site hadn't been updated and it wasn't there anymore. I went home and my friend and I watched Altered States, which fucked me up good. That movie got to me -- I'm still trying to sort out what it was, but it disturbed something in me and now I'm depressed.

Watch all of his movies

Try The Brood next

I didn't realize there were bros out there who didn't appreciate the guitar guy. And yes, knowing the effects were all on-set absolutely makes him cooler.

Peggy Sue Got Married is on Sundance On Demand. I think it's been done as well or better since, but it's still a pretty good flick.

I wish that Coppola had dealt with the story's time travel component a bit more, but that seems like a lot to expect from this type of movie.

Cage, in one of his stranger performances, took me a few minutes to get used to, but I actually thought he stole the show. Helen Hunt and Joan Allen did a good job, too, I thought.
