N.C Beaches, the next Amity Island

Aw man, wish I had seen this before the family beach trip last week!

Heck they have alligators in the surf too. Only thing worse than being eaten by a shark would be by an alligator.

Fisherman yesterday pulled a 4-foot shark out of the water right next to us. So that was cool.

Had a nice experience at Atlantic beach last week with the family. My dad is an avid fisherman and recently ruptured his achilles tendon. So everyday I would piggyback him from the boardwalk to the sand, throw him out two lines and leave him there all day. He wouldn't have it any other way. We're sitting there eating lunch and his small rod takes off. He hooks the fish but it runs down the beach. There's no way for him to chase it so he hands me the rod. Long story short, I fight the fish about 1/4 mile down the beach, gather a bunch of spectators in the 45 minute fight, and end up with a guy helping me net it to finally get it in (tiny rod, 8 lb test). 31 inch Red Drum. We take picture on phones and such them put him back in and go on our way back to the tents. On our way back we hear a woman yelling behind us and everyone starts pointing. Three 5' Blacktip Fin sharks had surrounded the fish and were feeding in the water around it. They were on the breaker side of the waves, so 1.5-2 feet of water. You could see the drum swimming in the middle of them. All 200 people watching thought it was the coolest thing they had seen except for one mom who cussed my dad out for fishing on the surf and ruining her familys vacation. Ill post a pic of the sharks when I get a chance to upload them to imgur

I mean, if your surf fishing is attracking sharks to a crowded area where kids are swimming, can you blame her? She is more than entitled to that opinion. There is no law keeping you from fishing and there is no law for keeping her from cursing your old man for it.

I never said she was wrong

Do we know for sure that it wasn't her kids that attracted the sharks? That poor Red Drum very well may have lost its life because of that lady and her damn kids swimming in the ocean!

Hey man, free country. All I was saying is a mom fearing for her kids and cursing is not "wrong" either.

Went out with Rubbins to Carolina Beach one time and Rubbins got nervous. When RUBBINS gets nervous at a honky-tonk bar, you know that place is honky-tonk as a motherfucka.

Also, I am here in Oak Island right now. Tell me where you stayed so I can go there and sift through the trash can.

I really hope you guys went to the Fat Pelican. Best bar ever.

My wife accidentally dropped my iphone into the sea the other day, which means that like 18 months from now it'll wash up on IBIZA and that'll be pretty bitchin.

On the bright side, I totally just had a pretty cool solo Prince Caspian moment out there in the surf floating upon the waaaves.
