Official Elon Post-Game Thread (41-3 Wake Forest win)

I think it might be a top 5 offensive output in program history.

We tied #3 game all time for total offense at 591 yds.

Clawson already has as many Top 10 total offense games as Grobe and Caldwell each.

I was on the hill and one of the few times I liked that angle of view was the Wolford run. It was just amazing, he's got some serious legs and was very smart about utilizing his blockers and anticipating which side/gap to hit.

Wolford is a really smart player both in terms of instinct and in terms of understanding the game. His athleticism is much better than many seem to think. Keep him healthy, give him protection and he could well have a remarkably productive career at WF.

considering how bad our offense was last year, throwing up almost 600 yards against anybody is impressive.

ESPN (currently getting CRUSHED in market share by NFL Network) has a nice feature story on their homepage about DUKE's big win last night and how pleased Cutcliffe is with the performance.

Also a story on Peyton Manning...the more things change...

Clawson said in a recent interview that Wolford would run more this year for 2 reasons.
1. they were trying to protect him last year. He was getting beat up enough with sacks, etc
2. Wolford really worked hard in the off season and is in great shape. He looked a lot faster last night that he did last season.

with both Wolford and Hinton being able to run when needed, it should really help to keep defenses honest.

Big fan of KJ Brent and Chuck Wade.

To state the obvious: WF is improved. Really happy with the coaching staff; love their energy on the sideline.

Wolford is a solid QB. He is accurate; he has reasonably quick release and he throws a decent deep ball. He is also a better athlete than most give him credit for. Realize it was against a bad FCS team, but that 70 yard run was impressive.

Really happy with the cornerback play. With the loss of two studs, that was a huge concern on D, but they looked very solid. Again, the eval needs to be tempered because the corners were matched up against Elon's receivers, and not FSU's, but still their play was solid. The defense will lead this team again. WF tackles very well.

Running game remains a concern. Still not a big fan of the shotgun running scheme as it takes so long for the backs to start running down hill, and the line didn't get a whole lot of push. I thought the OL did a reasonably good job of pass-blocking, but WF had major problems handling the blitz pickups. The backs were particularly weak at staying on blitzing LBs. Cuse and every other opponent is going to blitz the hell out of our offense until we can make them pay for it. Got to believe that blitz pick up is going to be the major point of emphasis for the O this week.

While the defense was really solid, the pass rush was not great. Even when WF brought additional pressure, we didn't get as much pressure as you would expect against an inferior foe like Elon. Definitely concerned that teams with mature OLs while have a lot of time to throw against us.

As stated above, WF dominated a weak team. While not deserving of a parade, there have been many editions of WF football that would have muddled through an ugly win against Elon. This team did not. Kudos.

Love the direction that the program is going. The team is so young; got to think that the pieces WF is currently missing (pass rush; sturdy OL; mature running game) will develop over the next two years. If WF football was a stock, I would buy.

If Syracuse blitzes as much as I bet they will, I'd like to see some TE/RB screens. Serigne is good with the ball in his hands and even better blocking downfield.

Really impressed by Wolford. To me his release looks extremely quick and much improved, as does his athleticism. If (when) we get into situations where our offensive line starts getting dominated I wonder if we might see Hinton on some roll outs so Wolford doesn't have to just get crushed repeatedly like last year... Fun game to watch, but really curious to see what we do against Syracuse. They were horrible last year but crushed us anyway.

Wolford's ability to throw screen passes is pretty underrated.

I liked the sleeves on the new uniforms.

1979 was a really fun year!

With a young team this week of practice will be huge. If the most improvement happens between weeks one and two we may be able to compete at SU.

Listened to the postgame on the WF App. It carries the Sirrius radio feed and works great!

Stream of consciousness off.

Those jerseys were f'n horrible. absolutely embarrassing. those terrible checkered shoulders. Woof

Were bringing in 3 stud DE's in Basham, Zimmer and Walker which will help us alot.
