BBall Recruiting Thread 2k16- SJM, Washington, Childress & Mitchell sign NLIs; 2017?

What the hell is this supposed to mean? Do you think it is a good thing that shoe companies are determining where kids are going to school? No one is crying about it and it has nothing to do with sour grapes - I would think it was just as disgusting if it was why we were getting kids.

No you wouldn't

That's a pretty low standard.

Like it or not it is what we have to deal with. Manning is a good coach. Beat your heads in all you want and ruin any enjoyment of watching your team if that floats your boat, but Manning is turning the ship around and it won't be long until we are headed in the right direction again.

You're pretty definitive in your statement. I hope you're right. But I think a lot of us would say it a bit differently
- Manning may end up being a good coach
- He hopefully will start turning the ship around
- Soon we should be heading in the right direction

Jury is out. The best thing about Manning right now is that he's not [Redacted]. It's early, but he hasn't actually done anything that makes me feel that the ship is turning.

Really? I think it's funny to watch some of you high basketball IQ types pick the fly shit out of the pepper and call it enjoyable. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

Manning is vastly better than [Redacted]. Not sure to what degree the ship is "righted" yet but better IMO. It remains to be seen whether we will become competitive in our conference again under Manning. I'm hopeful.

Hate to derail the thread, but ESPN Insider had a blurb on a couple of our targets...

Nation’s No. 1 prospect begins his visit tour

Harry Giles, the No. 1 player in the ESPN 100, hasn't taken any official visits yet this fall -- but that will change this weekend, as Giles heads to Winston-Salem to visit Wake Forest. Danny Manning has done a terrific job with the big man, and has the Demon Deacons in the hunt. They conducted an in-home visit with Giles last week, and will look to continue the momentum this weekend. Giles also has official visits set to North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky and Duke, although there has been some talk he will have to push back his North Carolina visit. All five schools have been to Oak Hill Academy (Va.) to see Giles in the past week-and-a-half. Many people have considered Giles a Duke lean due to No. 2 prospect Jayson Tatum committing to the Blue Devils, but expect Giles to go through all his visits and give each of his finalists a shot.

Duke hosts five-star big man Marques Bolden

Heading into the summer, Duke’s priorities in the 2016 class became fairly clear. Tatum was atop the list, and he committed during July. Frank Jackson (No. 14) was the top point guard, and he pledged earlier this month. Also on the board were Harry Giles (No. 1) and Marques Bolden (No. 20). Of course, other players have now entered the mix, like Wenyen Gabriel (No. 23) and Javin Montgomery-DeLaurier (No. 44), but Bolden is still one of the Blue Devils’ main targets. And he will be in Durham this weekend. Duke did an in-home with Bolden last weekend as well. The Texas native has already visited Kentucky, and is expected to trip to Kansas next weekend. Alabama, Baylor, Oklahoma and others are also on his final list of eight.

A lot of flapping about Manning's plan. If I were he, this would be my 2017 lineup.

Moore at the 5, Collins at the 4, Giles at the 3 (important), Crawford at one guard. I'd like to see Childress at the other guard. I think he'd fit like a glove with those four. Dinos first off the bench since he can cover two spots. Manning's 1st and 3rd (minus Giles) classes will give us a deep bench.

I don't know if that is his plan, but it makes sense to me.

Pretty much how I feel right now.

I can't see a freshman Childress starting over a junior Wilbekin.

I'd like to see our 2016 guys actually play a game before I comment on the 2017 lineup / rotation.

Why? But that fifth spot is wide open. The whole point of my post was that Manning brought in the core of his team last year, presuming there is a plan.

Thanks for posting.

Somewhat confirms what I have heard about Giles-- Wake has been and continues to be recruiting him the hardest. In fact, I was told that Wake has shown him "the most love from zero" meaning that they were after him before everyone else.

Dook made Tatum the top priority hoping that getting him would make them an automatic for Giles- a two-for-one deal. K is counting on the Tatum verbal and the Giles-Tatum friendship (and the many banners hanging in Cameron) to seal the deal.

Manning has had to recruit the old-fashioned way...sell the school and show Giles that he is a priority & wanted at Wake Forest.

So would I. I simply said that if there was a plan, this would be the only scenario that made any sense.

All things considered, I think we have a good shot at getting HG. Hope he has a great weekend!

So the only plan that "makes any sense" is to play the number 1 recruit in the country out of his natural position?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Harry take the ball up the court a lot for us in some of our "match up problems" for other teams if we landed Harry. I can see Manning testing out a ton of different lineups with the guys we have, especially if we land HG

Not sure why we are assuming Wilbekin or Childress would start over Woods or Crab for that matter.
