Democratic Candidates for POTUS, 2016 edition

I wonder how many more cycles before we have a traditional "tax and spend" progressive in office again? Looking at historical outlays for deficit/surplus, it's pretty clear we've had fiscal conservatives for a few decades now.

Seems to me like Bernie is really the only one in the fold willing to raise (or enforce) taxes and spend on infrastructure, health, education, etc.

Has Hilary even released any sort of platform for the above?

I forgot to add, half of the Democratic Party wants either a socialist or a guy not running instead of the front runner with all the special interest money in her bags.

I think it'll be a while.

And this election cycle is really starting to scare me. Hillary and her staff have run an awful campaign so far, Bernie isn't electable, and the Pubs are running mostly crazies. A Pub crazy prez with a Pub Congress can do a lot of damage to the country, not to mention more neocon foreign policy blunders, over 4 years.

Doesn't change the fact that he's right about Hillary. She will just mold her position to be whatever polls best.

And that position will be far enough for the Republican position for her to keep support. There are no good choices this time.

Yes. Not a fan.

And the biggest shame of a Sanders or a damaged Clinton candidacy is the effect it will have on the Senate. If the Dems were running a strong candidate against a Pub crazy, the coattail effect in the Senate could be tremendous. They're already going to get WI & IL back, and NH, PA, OH, FL and NV should all be competitive. With a strong candidate, maybe even a couple more races in unexpected states. If the Dems blow the presidency this year, they certainly blow any chance at getting the Senate back.

I'm not nearly as bearish on Bernie as you are. Think he has a real shot.

Yeah. He's run a strong campaign to get this far.

which is polling even with Joe Biden who isn't even in the race yet.

He has no shot, and if he does it will be terrible news for Dems in 2016 because he will get crushed in the general election.

Hillary polled better before she got into the race. I could see the same happening with Smilin' Joe.

You can't count out Bernie until the first debate. I think Joe will wait until after then to decide if he's needed.

I disagree strongly. If he gets forced out by an establishment candidate, which is certainly possible, and if it's Biden, fine.

But if he is the guy, I don't think you really have any basis to say how he'll do against Rubio/Bush. Especially not if he gets a good running mate.

This is still a mostly conservative country, and he's the most left wing candidate I can remember, probably more so than Teddy Kennedy and McGovern. He won't play well in battleground states and even some states that traditionally vote Dem like PA and WI. He wins the left coast, MD to MA & VT, and IL & MN. He loses in VA and NC by double digits against any Pub and loses OH, FL and the Mountain West, which has been trending Dem. Add to that he is zero help to any potential Senate Dem in a battleground state. Maybe it's possible he beats 1 of the real crazies, like Trump, Cruz or Carson. But ain't no way he beats Bush, Kasich or Rubio. And right now, my money would be on Rubio because he can appeal to both tea baggers and evangelicals, whereas Bush and Kasich do not at all.

I think some of you are engaging in wishful thinking. Bush or Rubio would mop the floor with him

He is getting crushed by Clinton in current polling in all of the battleground states he would have to win in the general election.

They can barely get on the floor within their own party.
