BBall Recruiting Thread 2k16- SJM, Washington, Childress & Mitchell sign NLIs; 2017?

Chris Webber teaching the storytelling class is sheer genius. I can envision a group of former NBA stars on the faculty who happen to hang out and work out with the current players, as well as teach them a class or two or three.

9/25 - WF unofficial (went with Childress on his official, met with J. Ho)
10/2 - USA basketball camp (injured)
10/09 - Kansas official
10/16 - KY official
10/23 - WF unofficial/W-S visit*
10/30 - Duke official

So yeah, besides his 4 official visits, he's not remained at Oak Hill since at least mid-September. I personally cannot confirm the visit this weekend but a few people I trust feel it is likely.

And that list doesn't even include the big send off to Oak Hill unofficial visit he took when Tim Duncan and CP3 were on campus.

Yup and was also on campus the last weekend of August before leaving for Oak Hill. So if he comes this weekend, that'll be 4 visits in just under 2 months. VIBESSSS

His HS basketball season starts on the 26th or 27th of Oct (can't remember, too lazy to look up). It's going to be his last visit home for a while (dook on Halloween, season in full swing after that). No weekend practices at OHA, 1.5 hours (or less) from Mouth of Wilson to Winston-Salem...possibility of him not coming home until Christmas break- and even then, only for a few days.

I don't know if he is coming or not, but last week it sounded like a strong possibility. If he is in WS, he's coming to Wake on Friday night.
 
I also *heard* last night that Giles pretty much let Ol Roy & co know at the beginning of the summer that it was highly unlikely he was going to choose UNC and that Ol Roy told him, in so many words, that he should feel privileged that UNC was even recruiting him, that UNC basketball is sacred, only a chosen few, yada yada yada. Completely turned them off of UNC.

He was going to honor his commitment of taking an OV to help with UNC PR in the middle of the NCAA investigation, but he did let them know ahead of time that he was not going to choose them so that Roy could recruit others. Not sure what happened to change his mind about his OV. I've heard Ol Roy or someone on his staff got ugly because they found out he was at Wake the weekend of his 1st UNC OV when he said he had scheduling conflicts at OHA. I've also heard that the family was completely turned off by Roy's attitude and that he hadn't really had a lot of contact with Giles throughout the recruiting process.
 
Well if nothing else it's good to know in considering Duke as an option, he won't consider distance from home an issue! 20 minutes closer drive than OHA...

Same thing has been said recently on 24/7 sports by a member of the Giles camp on the Duke insider board. The word "arrogant" was used by the Giles family to describe Roy more than once.

What? Isn't it like an hour further?

From Mouth of Wilson, Va to Durham is 2.5 hours (almost double the mileage).

I think he means Durham is closer to W-S than Mouth of Wilson is to W-S. Which it is, by like 6 or 7 miles.
 
 
Heard something about that Jeff Capel bonded with Harry during his knee surgery at Duke. Said that Harry considers him a good friend and a very cool guy. Not saying this relationship is determinative just perspective on it.

Yeah if skipping an OV in its entirely to go with one of your best friends to the school he's already committed to for his OV (which was merely a formality and allowed Giles to tag along as well) = maybe hung out in or around Winston then sure, Giles "maybe" hung out in Winston a couple weeks back

This is definitely the school of thought from the Duke perspective -- that we won the recruitment during his surgery and rehab. I'll elaborate after Giles makes his choice no matter which school because I don't want another negative rep downpour, but if he chooses Duke this will be pointed to as the moment we took the catbird's seat
