Richmond @ Wake Forest - 7pm - ESPN3 - Prediction/Game Thread

Looks like I won't have to worry about watching games once we get to the ACC schedule. Another wasted season.

Freshman PG and Freshman PF gonna play like freshmen at times. Dinos, well, he's just a sophomore. Can't expect a lot from youth if they're not top 30ish players.

Those freshmen probably have the most talent on this team. Collins is averaging over a point a minute over 3 games. That's crazy.

One has to move their feet in defense. We suck.

This game absolutely crushes my hopes that Manning is the man. He is clearly not. That was a patheticly coached team.

We had it down to 2 and the ball coming out of a T/O. Should be able to get a better look and potentially finish off the comeback. But no.

It seemed like Collins could get a good look at will when he was in - probably would have been a good time to put him in and see if you could get a good look around the goal from him or Thomas, but Collins didn't even see the court down the stretch. And is McClinton worse than VanHorn? You would have thought he would have been in down the stretch.

If O'Brien and Van Horn were unavailbale for this game we might have won.

I thought we played OK. Definitely some stupid mistakes but the fact is Richmond shot the lights out tonight which will happen sometimes. Prime example is George Washington's win over uva. With even just cmm, we beat Richmond. I think we'll be fine this year and still think bubble/nit from what I see.

Indeed, can't believe he wasn't on the floor. U didn't need a 3, we didn't need Dinos on the floor there. Go with JC and DT and Greg and get the damn ball inside.

Unconscionable for a former All-Star big man in Danny frickin' Manning.

Listen using the lights out shooting as an excuse is ok from time to time but we are shit defensively for all 3 games this year. At some point it is that we suck defensively and not them shooting the lights out.

And that's Manning's fault. Van Horn had 0 pts, 3 reb, 2 to, and 5 fouls in what 28-30 minutes?

(ESPN and CBS Sports box scores don't show minutes. Ridiculous.)

Love Crawford but why is he dribbling around the perimeter with really no plan? And then when he drives, it's at the wrong time. Grrrrr

Where is the pick n' roll? Where are the back cuts? No real movement when the PG is dribbling. That is the most concerning to me. Should at least be able to move the ball against UR to get an open/decent look.

I think we need to be a bit patient in terms of evaluating the freshmen. These critiques seem especially unreasonable.

I don't know if we have the pieces to run the pick-and-roll, to be honest. Not every point guard is comfortable operating in PnR situations. Codi is a really capable player in the pick-and-roll, but that was it. PnRs constituted just 10% of our overall possessions last year vs. 21.6% of Codi's.

We knew that lacking shot creators would hurt us without Codi. Bryant showing some potential in this area is great (and I have no doubt that his instincts will improve as he becomes more comfortable playing at this level), but the reality is that creators open up the floor for everyone else. With our current talent and experience deficits, there is a lot that we simply cannot do without a proven creator on the floor.

That being said, I'm pretty disappointed in how Dinos and Greg have looked so far. Solid numbers from both tonight, but their instincts/awareness are far too low for players with that much experience.

Were you watching the same game as the rest of us? Ok would have been playing any modicum of defense, not turning the ball over a gazillion times and not missing 14 free throws.

of course it's manning's fault. i have no idea what he's doing playing them so much.

eta: espn's will show minutes later, not during or immediately after.

Will the disappointments ever end in basketball. I thought Manning could coach defense. They were horrible. Our fans are horrible. They have a nice win versus Bucknell and they come home and it sounds like a morgue. What is wrong with our fans. They just sit there and do nothing. The only time the team played with passion is when the fans cheered for two minutes when we cut the lead. Pathetic game and pathetic fans.

1. One of the worst substitution patterns I've seen in a while. Rarely, if ever, did DT and JC see the court together. Could've been a strong high-low duo against the zone.
2. O'Brien has no business sniffing a DI basketball court. Did the ol catch-a-pass and throw it right back to the passer routine. Posters here could score on him.
3. If Dinos isn't knocking down shots, he's a liability. Can't defend, can't box out, and makes sloppy passes.
4. 14 missed FTs and 20 TOs will lose you a game every time.

All that being said, love Crawford and Collins. And as a Yung Crab enthusiast, I'm optimistic once we return two starters.

Have no idea why manning is playing van horn at the end and sitting McClinton. Made no sense.

Our defense is killing us. How many times have we heard about them doing "shell drill" and defensive emphasis as the foundation and yet we gift 3s and pressure nobody. So frustrating g.
